His last album was really good. I really enjoyed it. I thought the Strut album was great too. And Baptism. Those are my favourite albums by Lenny Kravitz. There is something to like on all the others but I find them to be decent, at best. Black & White America is probably the best of the rest. Some great songs on that one. I don't know if I'd say he was a "poser" though. I mean, no more than anyone else. He's a good singer. He's written some really good songs. Pays tribute to his influences but does it his own way. Sure, he talks a lot of bollocks and comes across as an idiot sometimes when he's going on about being "touched by the spirit" and all that crap. But we're on a Prince fan site here. And Prince was guilty of all that stuff too. Now, fair enough, Prince was better at all the good stuff that Lenny can do. But if we're calling Lenny Kravitz a poser, then he's certainly not the only one.

I'm not one to begrudge a guy his success, but yes...the embodiment of poser. He scratches some people's itch, though. More power to him.

A GenX'er who hugely pays tribute to an earlier time of music in his own artistic expressions. In that way I see him as a vaguard of musical history & feel doesn't necessarily pioneer much but that's OK. He reaches an audience! I enjoy seeing him in acting roles and its cool that he & Prince were friends.

Dude looks and moves like a rock star, it holds up until he hits the stage. Once the music starts, it all falls flat. Graycap23 was ME!

But I actually think that calling him a rockstar does him a disservice. He's more than that. On any given album, especially the more recent ones, you'll get rock, funk, soul, synth pop, etc. That's what I mean when I compare him to Prince. He kind of does it all. Plays every instrument too. Ok, so he's not as good as Prince. We'll call him "Prince-lite". But in the absence of the real thing, he's kind of the best we got.

I definetely prefer his first albums. I wouldn't rate none of them as masterpieces, but up to the mid-90s his output was consistent and he produced some irresistible singles: "Always On The Run", "Mr Cab Driver", "Are You Gonna Go My Way", "It Ain't Over Till It's Over", "Fly Away"... I'll give him that. From the 2000's onwards, to me, he just doesn't reach that bar - at least pop-wise. He just doesn't have any kind of impact on me. . As for being a poser, well, why not? I mean, you have to reckon he looks GREAT, and he rightfully exploits that. In fact I wish there were more people out there with style and swagger. Then again, with Lenny there might not be all that much substance behind. But he managed to keep relevant after a 40-year career. So I guess he's just what it is. Not my cup of tea, but he has all my respect.

I don't know if he's the biggest poser but he's up there. Half of the problem may be that he is/was visually every bit the rock star but his music doesn't quite hit the same mark. The machine that was the music industry thrust him upon us as if he was the second coming and he played the part. In reality, he is a solid musician with more style than substance. That being said, I do like his music.

He was on a roll on his first 3-5 albums. Awesome singles, and I looked forward to all his releases back then. Then he aged rather gracefully, and his last album is kinda cool.
I always felt he was doing his own thang, not really a poser in the sense of "I need to imitate people to be successful".
Ahh, and yes, he does not stand up to Prince's orginality, but then again, who does?

Interesting that he started out as Romeo Blue and end up doing "rock" music. Graycap23 was ME!
