Sentient is composed of 11 dazzling tracks – three of them previously unreleased – compiled by the virtuoso guitarist, remastered and sequenced in a way that allows a new and dramatic story to emerge. As is often the case when the spark of musical magic strikes, Santana was surprised, delighted and receptive. “I’m always driven by passion, emotion and inner instinct,” he says. “When I first heard these tracks floating around in the house, I said, ‘Why don’t we put these all in one place?’”

Listeners will be captivated as they experience a live instrumental take on Michael Jackson’s haunting ballad, “Stranger in Moscow,” officially released for the first time.
Recorded in 2007 with producer and drummer Narada Michael Walden’s band, it's a devastating masterclass performance – Santana’s guitar playing is by turns soulful and poetic, blitzing and blinding, and always breathtakingly imaginative.

Love, Devotion, Surrender: The Illustrated Story of His Music Journey is an upcoming book from Jeff Tamarkin and Insight Editions providing a “visual journey” through the life, legacy and lasting influence of Carlos Santana.

Officially announced this week, the published collection will be available starting May 27 and is filled with previously unseen photographs and ephemera from more than 50 years of Santana’s time as a cultural icon and music legend.

Now, fans can follow Santana through his musical journey with this oversized, slip-cased, deluxe retrospective book, featuring never-before-seen pieces from his personal archives such as rare backstage and onstage photography, tour memorabilia, personal art and correspondence, awards, and more.

In addition to the pieces from Santana’s personal archives, this extraordinary volume also features a foldout of his favorite guitars from his vast collection, facsimiles of his most important albums, an in-depth illustrated discography, and a complete catalogue of every Santana performance from 1968 to 2025.
