Stone was one of none people in van, which included her crew and backup singers when the van was crashed on Interstate 65 in Montgomery County. She was the only fatality, Deborah told us. Angie was traveling from a performance at Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association Grand Marshal’s Ball to another performance at the CIAA basketball tournament in Baltimore when the crash occurred, we're told. Deborah tells us she just spoke to Angie last night ... and the news has rocked and devastated friends and family. Angie rose to fame as a member of The Sequence -- the first all-female group signed to Sugar Hill Records.

Age 63, and you are driving (or being driven) from a one nighter in Montgomery Alabama to another one nighter in Baltimore. That's 839 miles. Unbelievable! And she was expected to perform AGAIN that very AFTERNOON. After a gig the previous night and driving 839 miles. Without getting a rest in an actual hotel. Crowded in a van with a bunch of other people. In the wee hours of the morning. After just playing a gig at which everyone else in the van (presumably the driver too, but don't know) had also been working. That's 839 miles. At age 63. Well, that's a trooper but that shit ain't even close to right. Who'd have thought there'd be a danger of a crash under these conditions? This van had NINE people in it - was it also loaded down with equipment? Was someone driving a van too heavy with cargo on little to no sleep? Singers and musicians are workers just like anybody else, they contribute a great deal to society's well-being and smooth functioning and they have rights that ought to be respected, by society and the law. Like rest and safe working and travel conditions. Especially when you've been making people happy with music for over 40 years and had a ton of hit records and everyone that's ever met you says what a great person you are. Angie Stone recently relelased a video detailing serious financial problems typical stuff being ripped off by record companies and inner circle people. Surely she felt compelled to work any way and under any conditions that prevailed. Did she even have health insurance to help her recover had she survived the crash and had serious injuries to contend with? Many even most musicians her age DO NOT. If not, why not?
Well, that said, peace out to Angie Stone. I liked your Vertical Hold work the best. | |
