Vanity was the template for a lot of the female artists that came after I'm a huge fan of Vanity (RIP) and dare I say, she was the template for many of the other female artists that came after her, and even for some more recent/contemporary ones.
She influenced thru her unique clothing style, sex appeal, lyrics and just overall persona. Janet and Jody Watley (whom I both love) definitely took some cues from Vanity in many aspects of their presentation. As did Madonna, Apollonia, Karyn White, Lisa Lisa to some degree and Beyonce for sure. The more recent artists and their producers/ image makers definitely studied the original divas of the past to get inspiration and such. So it would be no surprise they emulated the godess, Vanity.
Who else agrees? Anyone want to discuss some of these specific instances in which you see Vanity's influence on another future artist that came after. | |

You might as well say Prince was the template for a lot of the female artists that came after lol. Seems appropriate given he created vanity in the first place. |
