40 Years of Music: Footloose & Beverly Hills Cop

There are so many iconic albums released in 1984, but I wanted to dig into these two. Footloose and Beverly Hills Cop.

Footloose - Kenny Loggins

Let's Hear It For The Boy - Deniece Williams

Almost Paradise - Mike Reno & Ann Wilson

Holding Out For A Hero - Bonnie Tyler

Dancing In The Sheets - Shalamar

I'm Free (Heaven Helps The Man) - Kenny Loggins

Somebody's Eyes - Karla Bonoff

The Girl Gets Around - Sammy Hagar

Never - Moving Pictures

Bonus:
Bang Your Head (Metal Health) - Quiet Riot

Hurts So Good - John Mellencamp

Waiting For A Girl Like You (Foreigner)

The original 9-track album hit number one on Billboard 2000 on April 21, 1984 and remained there until June 23, 1984 (about the time Purple Rain album was released).

Six of the songs hit the top 40, three hit the top 10, and two were number one hits, including "Footloose" and "let's Hear It For The Boy."

"Almost Paradise" was number 7, and "Somebody's Eyes" was number 16 on the AC chart.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

New Attitude - Patti LaBelle

Don't Get Stopped In Beverly Hills - Shalamar

Do You Realy (Want My Love?) - Junior

Emergency - Rockie Robbins

Neutron Dance - Pointer Sisters

The Heat is On - Glenn Frey

Gratitude - Danny Elfman

Stir It Up - Patti LaBelle

Rock 'N Roll Me Again - The System

Axel F - Harold Faltermeyer

(There is another version of this soundtrack that contains "BHC (I Can't Stop)" by "Rick James" in place of "Emergency.")"

The album was released at the end of 1984 but hit #1 by June 1984.

"Nasty Girl" by Vanity 6 was in the movie (in the strip club robbery) but wasn't on the soundtrack.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Its crazy remembering the amount of hit songs were coming from these soundtracks in the 70s, 80s and first part of the 90s

I remember Rick James releasing a song the spring of 1985 called Can't Stop and it was the first single from the album Glow. He dedicated the song to Eddie Murphy. I always said it sounded like a song for a movie soundtrack and not a proper song for an album. Can't Stop was the worst song on Glow imo on pan otherwise solid offering from Rick James.

I like "Can't Stop" smile Rick was reaching for a new sound ...a synth-heavy pop/rock sound and I think it worked very well. But I agree with you,Glow is a solid album from Rick and probably his most underrated album.
