Black Friday RSD 2024

From experience I expect no one to respond to this thread, it seems like there are no vinyl heads on the org anymore. But I'll give it a whirl anyway.

Since the Prince Estate has no clue how to sell music to music fans there was of course no Prince release this time. There should have been a limited edition 30th anniversary reissue of the Black Album, which would not violate the terms of the Netflix deal, but of course there was not.

The only release that I grabbed this time was the Hendrix, it was just highlights from the Songs For Groovy Children set but I can't afford that 8LP box and I love the Band Of Gypsys shows so for me this was a nice pickup.

My nephew grabbed the Motley Crue Dr. Feelgood 7" box set.

I considered the Cypress Hill live record, but ended up passing for now. If it doesn't sell out I may reconsider.

Anybody else still spinning vinyl and hitting the wrecka stow for RSD around here? What did YOU bring home?

I think back in 94 it was mentioned that Prince himslef locked any re-release of the Black Album and that only the 94 pressing would exist from that point on as a limited edition release and no other pressings were to be made in the future

Yes. When it was up to Prince. Now it's not.

That was 30 years ago. Another limited pressing, for a new generation, that was also locked in and once it sold out was gone, would be appropriate.

If we go by what Prince WANTED released, then we're done right? Nothing else from the vault? Nah, he's gone, and out of all the ways they can make money off him, something like a limited TBA release would not be the thing he find most objectionable I would think.

Here in Austria we have the germanspeaking countries "Edition" : so a different selection. I just thought about the "Ngozi" LP but here in Vienna in that store I went to it was not available. The story had it´s 20th Anniversary and I grabbed the Stairsteps LP from Last year´s RSD. But the next day I found bootlegs of Prince shows (aftershows) and regular Shows in Europe from the 80ies. nod cool

Sure it was when Prince was alive but I would think he would have secured that on paper with WB, so even if he is dead maybe some sort of clause exists. I would love for he album to be remastered properly but who knows.

I'm not a lawyer but I would think the 94 deal was irrelevent unless those currently in charge choose to stick to it. IIRC, Even Prince allowed it to be on Tidal for awhile. And really, my whole point is to do the exact same thing again, for a new generation... Make it Limited again, go with the same number of pressings as last time, or even less. Make it all about fans who missed out or weren't around at the time getting their chance to get it while assuring that it would quickly go out of print and disappear from first sale retail rather quickly. I think Prince would find such a release far less objectionable than some of the choices being made these days.

Also, my only vinyl copy is a bootleg, a very good bootleg but you still hear tape noise, and I personally want a legit copy without dropping hundreds on a 94 copy. So, yes, I'm very biased in my opinion. lol

yeah I completely agree with that. I didn't know the 94 viny l release was already going for hundreds!
Last time I saw one was at some festival stand last summer for $10, should have bought it

Oooh yeah, you should have.
They're not cheap on discogs. The most I would pay is $100 for one in very good shape so for the time being I'll have to settle for my bootleg on vinyl. I of course have the official CD but really want to spin the wax!!
