Sly Stone memoir

Has anyone read Sly's Thank You? Goodreads suggested it to me but it had a median rating, mostly getting 3 out of 5 stars.

Anyone read it, thoughts on the rating? Does 3 stars hold up for whatever reason?

Read the book and never be disappointed whether it was a bad book or not.

CoolMF

It had some interesting moments but very little about the recording of classic songs/albums. Most of the book's about the last 40 years of his life but still worth reading.

Memoirs can be hit or miss, especially if the writing style or personal anecdotes don’t resonate with everyone.

Not just that, but I feel like we're getting to the point culturally where if people don't endorse the philosophy of what they're consuming they have trouble rating it 5/5.

Like with the whole drug thing and "loss of potential" etc I could see people getting consumed with their own lame opinions on his life and giving it a tepid rating because they don't agree with how he navigated, you know?

All very silly but I've seen it manifest with other reviews of other media more and more.

I completely agree with you! It’s frustrating how personal biases can overshadow the actual quality of the work.
