MJ's Heaven Can Wait just became a worldwide hit ( part 2)

Almost exactly two years ago, I opened a thread about the fact that Heaven Can Wait was gaining a lot of popularity on streaming services.

As a reminder :
https://prince.org/msg/8/...?&pg=1

At the beginning of the thread, HCW had 14 million streams on Spotify.
Two months after it reached the 20 M mark on Spotify, 6 M on YouTube.

Now, the song enjoys a 82,890,799 streams on Spotify, where it ranks at the #37 best streamed songs of MJ solo catalogue !
That is huge, with
an enduring interest for that song with still 100k streams a day.

It beats two Thriller songs ( Baby be Mine, Lady In My Life), Blood On The Dance-Floor, Jam, Rockin Robin, Give in To Me...

Where will it stop?
For months, It s just behind Ben 84 millions, but with an average of only 27k streams a day, so Heaven Can Wait has a better dynamic and will rank higher eventually.

I don't get why MJ Estate doesn't do a singles reissue campaign similar to Janet, Madonna, Mariah etc.

.

I want things like Remember The Time Silk Hurley remixes, Black or White C+C Remixes, YRMW remix with Jay-Z, Butterflies remix with Eve, Blood On The Dancefloor remix single with Fugees Remix.

.

It so odd to me that the estate has not focused on sharing with the world his actual released music.

if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2

You Re damn right.
They could have done for years record store days with vinyl reissues of rare singles, like Smile, Is It Scary, Ghosts, This Time Around, Butterflies, Unbreakable, so yes they could do Heaven Can Wait too...

So fuck MJ estate, and fuck Prince estate.
Both artists have estate that suck a lot compared to what they could do.

Invincible songs that are in his top 100 on Spotify :

#26 You Rock My World : 138,324,321
#33 You Rock My World - Radio Edit : 94,907,089
#37 Heaven Can Wait : 83,765,635
#49 Butterflies 54,319,861
#72 You Rock My World : 22,522,200
#76 Unbreakable 21,257,792
#78 Break of Dawn 20,633,044
#93 Whatever Happens 12,322,734
#95 Speechless 11,446,973

Butterflies peaked at #14 on the Billboard hot 100. Makes you wonder what could have made Heaven Can Wait on the US charts, if Sony and MJ did their job at the time (music video, remixes, maxi single, tv performances, payola, etc.).

On the contrary, Break Of Dawn is underperforming, due to it being on Number Ones, which sold like 15 millions worldwide.
It was supposed to be the next single distributed to US rnb stations, after Heaven Can Wait.

Fuck your sarcasm.
The MJ estate could have won easy money on single reissues and pleased the fans. That's about the only great artist not participating at the record store days.
Can you picture the joy of holding a vinyl reissue of Smile in you hand?
Can you picture that?

Oh, shit, no! She did it again.
Heaven Can Wait now outperformed Ben ( a personal favourite of mine) on Spotify, with more than 85 million streams.

#35 Scream #36 85,590,761 ( daily : 33,077)
#36 Heaven Can Wait 85,315,674 ( daily : 110,028)
#37 Ben 85,095,783 (daily average :44,222)

So now Heaven... is the #36 most streamed song of the MJ solo catalogue on Spotify.
Ben was a worldwide monster hit, an Oscar nominee selling more than 2.5 million physical copies way back in 1972/73. This is the best selling of MJ ever in Australia (8 weeks at #1, including the whole December month!) And of course a #1 in the USA.

Now considering the daily numbers, it's just a matter of 3 or 4 days before that Heaven Can Wait outperform Scream too. Unbelievable.

Heaven Can Wait now outperform Scream on Spotify for the best streaming MJ song ever on that platform.
It now ranks #35 !

Scream was a million seller in the US, and got the record for the best 1st week ever on the hot 100, with an hot shot début at #5. It went virtually top ten everywhere in the world.

#34 Liberian Girl 88,909,799
#35 Heaven Can Wait 85,946,771
#36 Ben 85,345,895

The next song to beat is now Liberian Girl. It should take about two months to do that.

A "worldwide hit" that still hasn't entered any country's official charts since 2002? Spotify's charts aren't official. A song gaining streams steadily for a year =/= a hit. All it means is that people like listening to it, but it's still not even among MJ's 30 most streamed songs.

Not in MJ's top 30 most streamed songs? No, but it IS already #35 ! While #37 only a month ago.
That song wasn't in the top 100 two years ago, so that s a great achievment. Prince dont have ten songs over thé Heaven CanWait numbers.

Mathematically, it will end up being in the top 20 eventually.
For a song that only charted at thé bottom of the charts more than 20 years ago, without a music vidéo, that s unexpected.

If Sony/ MJ promoted it at thé Time,it could have peaked in the top 20 of the hot 100 for sure.
It has good chances to be used in the biopic to come, increasing also his popularity.
