I think the lead vocal breakdown also shows who did and did not really want to be part of this project.

Or who shouldn't have been given a lead vocal.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I thnk its more this was a cash grab stike while the iron is hot, two members phoned it in pretty much because they didnt want to really part of it. I look at this like a one last shot to have everyone there again but its kind of like a family reunion you just make an apprearance at but you really dont want to be there

Because his career was at an all-time low at the time. He wasn't MJ Jr anymore.
By this point, knowing nobody hardly cared about the Jackson even when MJ was the lead singer and while their material was great, they should have gone to the extreme.

They should have done like a Victory 2 with all of the 9 Jackson siblings, with each one doing one track.
There could have been a silent tribute song for the 10th unborn Jackson. Nobody would have understood until MJ's funeral. Ouch

Why didn't Jermaine take part in the Torture video?

Yeah, and they were barely speaking on the subsequent tour. Jermaine thought he was MJ Jr or the next biggest star of the family. His ego was as bad as anyone's, though.

Despite Randy's rough past, for me Jermaine was the biggest train wreck of the family, mostly later on in his life. His wild claims, that Sharpie hairline, etc. Just these arbitrary attempts for press or relevance.

They pulled off the "Torture" video regardless of MJ or Jermaine's actions. I dig the video.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I love the stop-motion part with the skeletons.
T.MJ didn't take part in this video, but surely watched it enough to remember it for Ghosts.

The thing that absolutely baffled me at the time of the 2300 Jackson St album - in the UK, the first single had done respectably well (considering there was no MJ) and cracked the top 40.

Then they released the title track, featuring Michael and Janet (and others). Yet the single cover still only had the four brothers. What a missed opportunity - and it missed out on the top 75 altogether.

I agree, you would have thought that the song 2300 JS was their secret weapon ( MJ+ Janet), but it bombed eventually.
It's not only the fault of the cover to be fair, but it sure would have helped.
It bombed mainly because not enough payola ( common, only #9 on RnB stations) and even MTV didn't play the video neither.

It also hurt that Marlon wasn't part of the group anymore : he was fucking great in the video of Body.
I didn't listen to the album for like 15 years, but if I were them, I would have released Maria as a lead single, IMHO.

Michael would eventually sing on If You'd Only Believe 5 years later on the Jackson Family Honours show.

The Jacksons without MJ, it s like Genesis without Phil Collins ( Ray Wilson replacing him in Calling All StaTions).
That bombed because if you want it to work, to justify the absence of the band leader, you have to pull a fucking great song.
I don't know, Genesis would have to open with Liquido's Narcotic and the Jacksons withthe Bangles' Eternal Flame. You know,a real intemporal song, that clearly lack on 2300 JS
