Lenny Kravitz - Blue Electric Light

Lenny's latest album - this 12th studio - Blue Electric Light, is released today.

81CUjMhROqL._UF1000,1000_QL80_.jpg

  1. It's Just Another Fine Day (In This Universe of Love)
  2. TK421
  3. Honey
  4. Paralyzed
  5. Human
  6. Let It Ride
  7. Stuck in the Middle
  8. Bundle of Joy
  9. Love Is My Religion
  10. Heaven
  11. Spirit in My Heart
  12. Blue Electric Light

Run time: 55:24

The late Tony LeMan's is listed as cowriter on a song.

All lyrics are written by Lenny Kravitz, except "Bundle of Joy" and "Heaven" with lyrics by Kravitz and Tony LeMans.

All music is composed by Lenny Kravitz, except "It's Just Another Fine Day (In This Universe of Love)" and "Paralyzed" composed by Kravitz and Craig Ross.

I'm a few songs in, but I am enjoying it.

Yeah, digging most of it so far, Lenny sharing some 80 vibes and I like it. "Let It Ride", get some Prince vibes on this one for sure, on a lot of the album actually, "Human" & "Heaven" are a bit corny but fun, and "Just Another Fine Day (In This Universe of Love) is pretty great. "Bundle of Joy" is also super fun and Prince/Talking Heads kind of groove, glad to see Lenny having fun and doing his thing again.

When seeing the tracklist, I didn't make the connection that "Bundle of Joy" might be a Tony LeMans cover. Tony has the sole writing credit for the song on his album in 1989 so I'm guessing Lenny added new lyrcis.

I had to stop without hearing the last 3 tracks, but I'm circling back later tonight.

I like his general mix of R&B and rock, and everything around that. This feels like what he should've been doing all along.

Love this album. Lots of Prince vibes. Bundle of Joy sounds like something from the parade era.

The title of the song refers to the science fiction franchise Star Wars, in which TK421 is the identification number of a stormtrooper who received the task of guarding the Millennium Falcon imprisoned in the Death Star.

I think the TK421 reference is more to do with Boogie Nights. I saw an interview with Lenny where he mentions the scene in Boogie Nights where the guy is trying to sell a stereo or whatever and he refers to it as the TK421. Now, Boogie Nights was referencing Star Wars but it seems like Lenny Kravitz was mainly referencing Boogie Nights and ended up just referencing Star Wars by accident.

I'm on the second listen to this album now--maybe needed a trying day but I'm really loving this LP today. I hear so many influences, including Prince, and it is such an upbeat album--how can you not like it? Especially these days! cool

Well, too many cowbells and synths on Human. lol

Spirit in My Heart has such a Stevie Wonder vibe. Love it. Blue Electric Light--still considering the influence. Some Prince, some Hendrix but others, too.

I thought the same thing. The verse is very much the same melody as is the pre-chorus.

Upon multiple listens, it's better than his last few and the Prince influence is heavy to me on this.

There's a couple of songs I have to skip because I've grown to hate them but I'm glad Lenny is still growing as an artist.

A couple of years ago when I first got into Prince and I was listening to his entire discography, some of you guys advised that I branch out and listen to the associated artists like The Time, Sheila E, etc. One of my favourite albums from the associated artists was the Tony LeMans album. And one of my favourite songs from that album was Bundle Of Joy. So I was particularly pleased to see a cover of that song on the new Lenny Kravitz album. And I think I actually prefer the Lenny version.

With its captivating melody and 1v1 lol profound lyrics, the song delivers powerful and authentic emotions, showcasing Kravitz's signature blend of rock, funk and soul.
