Missy Elliott Announces First-Ever Tour of North America

Pitchfork says...

Missy Elliott will embark on her first-ever headline tour this summer, enlisting Ciara, Busta Rhymes, and Timbaland for an opening slate of two dozen dates across North America. Dubbed Out of This World — The Missy Elliott Experience, the tour kicks off on July 4 in Vancouver and wraps August 22 in Rosemont, Illinois. Check out the dates below, and find the announcement video on Instagram.

Missy Elliott said in a press release, “This is an incredible time in my life as I am experiencing so many milestone ‘firsts.’ Being the FIRST female Hip Hop artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and now going out on my FIRST headline tour. Fans have been asking me to tour forever but I wanted to wait until I felt the time was right because I knew if I was ever going to do it, I had to do it big, and I had to do it with family! So get ready to be taken OUT OF THIS WORLD with me, Busta Rhymes, Ciara, and Timbaland! We can’t wait to share this experience with the fans!”

Nostalgia is wild, Missy hasn't put out a new album in 20 years (I don't count that EP). Busta looks so good now, happy for him. Fun fact Busta has been on a few Missy albums but only as an interlude.

Yeah, she's done a couple of recent dates with a full barage of dancers, visuals, etc. I can't believe she's never really toured the U.S.

Sometimes I think hip-hop shows are hard to stage. The drama and dancing is different, lesser (maybe the music does feed choreo the same as pop music). I also think they're often not funded by record companies or sponsors the way they should be. The audiences are different, expectations are different.

I know Missy fought health issues with Graves disease, so maybe that played into it as well.

I totally agree re: hip hop shows. Its amazing to me that some MCs cultivate a recorded voice/presentation that is so articulate and unique but when its time for a show everyone screams in a mic over a recorded track nowadays.

.

I'm going to DJ Cassidy's Pass The Mic next month in NJ, I'm curious to see how they play this and if they use recorded tracks. I'm with De La Soul on this one, at the live hip hop show there should not be a prerecorded track.
