2024 RRHOF Nominees

Wow! This is the best list I have seen in several years! The ones in bold are my personal picks.

The 2024 Rock Hall nominees are:

Queen of Hip-Hop Soul Mary J. Blige

Powerhouse singer-songwriter Mariah Carey

Half-century-plus pop icon Cher

Roots rock jam band Dave Matthews Band

Hip-hop pioneers Eric B. & Rakim

Stadium rock hitmakers Foreigner

Arena-filling guitar (and talk box) pro Peter Frampton
Alt hard rockers Jane’s Addiction

Funky R&B legends Kool & the Gang;

Rock standard bearer Lenny Kravitz

Britpop poster boys Oasis

alt pop iconoclast Sinéad O’Connor;

metal god Ozzy Osbourne;

sophisticated R&B purveyors Sade;

alt hip-hop progenitors A Tribe Called Quest.

They are all deserving, considering they now let in all kinds of pop music.

Here's my 7, in no order:
Foreigner
Mariah
Sade
Ozzy
Cher
Lenny
Kool & the Gang

Sade's gotta go in here.

Nothing unique or original about Lenny's neo-classical guitar rock. If it was up to me he would never even be nominated, much less go in, ever. EVER.

Same for Ozzy, really, his truly iconic material was with Sabbath, if he gets inducted solo it's going to be on the strength of his 00s MTV antics.

Frampton deserves it for bringing talk box to the mainstream, and because it'll be super irritating when Twitter live reacts and calls him "The Autotune OG" or something equally cringe.

then I'll go Mariah, A Tribe Called Quest, and Eric B/Rakim.

The way they vote in people, some of nominees are going to cancel each other out. So I think Mariah going in will cancel out Mary J this time, Eric B should be in first over Tribe. Foreigner should be in, but there are other bands that they still are missing. I think Peter Frampton will get in and possibly Lenny Kravitz but he might have to wait a few years, though he was eligible about ten years ago and Mariah was about 8 or 9. Kool and The Gang I feel should have been in there prior, Cher has had ALOT to say recently about the HOF subject prior to her getting a nod, most thought Sonny and Cher were in there but to my knowledge I don't think they ever were up for it, and I think that TV show and all that did that in. OZZY also has had things to say prior to all this, I don't know about him getting in over others that now have fallen off the ballot.

Similarly, Ozzy's genuinely iconic work was with Sabbath; if he is inducted solo, it will be on the basis of his MTV exploits from the 2000s.

I'm gonna disqualify myself from weighing in on Dave Matthews, Peter Frampton, Ozzy Osbourne, Jane's Addiction and Foreigner. I only know a handful of their songs collectively. As for the others I'd put in Kool & the Gang, Eric B & Rakim, Sade and especially Tribe. I like Mary J. and Oasis was good but they're not quite there for me (Phil, if he's not in there already, I'd put in). Cher, Lenny and Sinead- I mean are they gonna let everybody in? I know Mariah will get in and there was a time I loved her music however, I kind of have a problem with somebody whose music is so formulaic even if it's pleasing on one level.
