New Luther Documentary

You get a documentary, you get a documentary. EVERYBODY GETS A DOCUMENTARY!

Luther: Never Too Much will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. And they better tell the whole story.

Luther Vandross started his career supporting David Bowie, Roberta Flack, Bette Midler, and more. His undeniable talent earned platinum records and accolades, but he struggled to break out beyond the R&B charts. Intensely driven, he overcame personal and professional challenges to secure his place amongst the greatest vocalists in history.

If you know, you know— there’s only one Luther. Acclaimed festival alum Dawn Porter invites audiences on a musical journey into the life of the iconic Luther Vandross, the man with the soulful velvet voice. An archival tapestry of performances and recording sessions immerse us in his legendary musical talent as a singer, songwriter, and producer. Porter then goes beyond the spotlight to delve into the man behind the music—insights from musicians and friends alongside archival interviews with Luther himself reveal his humor, frustrations, loneliness, and unwavering dedication to his craft.

Luther: Never Too Much delivers a sensitive and jubilant celebration of Luther Vandross and his music that resonates with evocative power. Some will form newfound admiration for Luther, while others will be transported to moments when his timeless melodies were the soundtrack to their lives. Good luck not singing along and dancing in your seat.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Wowee it's about time! I grew up on his music in the 80s and 90s. I'm so glad I got to see him live at MSG, which was the same london concert that was released on DVD.

Teddy P is definitely worthy ...so is Levi Stubbs from The Four Tops, David Ruffin from The Temptations, Maurice White from EW&F, and Michael Jackson...any of those men can make a case for arguably the greatest male voice.

Allow me to drop the mike: Luther Vandross live at the 1988 NAACP Awards. I promise you I am a fan of every singer mentioned in this thread but Luther Vandross is the only singer that has ever made me stunned with amazement at his vocal gymnastics. Just look at the reactions of all the stars watching him...they KNOW he is absolutely ONE of a kind. I miss this dude dearly.

My favorite Luther songs are Are You Using Me with Masters At Work and My Body with Louie Vega, which I consider a worthy prequel/sequel depending on how you view time.

Gooddoctor23

I've seen just about every single act u can name live from the mid 70's forward. Luther is the ONLY act that vocally BLEW me away. That was the early 80's and I remember it like it was yesterday. Dude was no joke.

Graycap23 was ME!

Don't forget Sam Cooke, Marvin and Donny Hathaway.

The doc has been getting rave reviews. They are now looking for a distributor to get it out to the masses.
