Tear Me To Shreds

Is there one song that absolutely wrecks you? Not just makes you a little emotional, but just tears you pieces, and you - more often than not - find yourself in pool of your own tears and emotions?

I don't know why, but for me it's Adele's "When We Were Young." I don't know what it is about that song, but it murders me every time. So I rarely let myself listen to it.

Last night I was watching videos from her Vegas residency. She walks around the auditorium while singing "When We Were Young," waving at folks, letting folks get a photo, etc. One time she saw the doctor who delivered her baby. Another time I woman gave her a note that said she had just lost her baby. Adele did a u-turn and went to hug her. That just adds to it for me.

But the song... that fucking song.

So what's your song?

If you have a problem with me, text me. If you don't have my number, you don't know me well enough to have a problem with me.

With most songs that have made me emotional, the effect tends to lessen.

Various songs that have gotten to me at least a couple times for one reason or another:
- Almost Blue - Elvis Costello
- One More Time - The Cure
- The Day I Tried to Live - Soundgarden
- The World I Know - Collective Soul
- No Surprises - Radiohead

But the more consistent ones of late are Sometimes It Snows and Way Back Home, naturally.

That reminds me of this movie I saw called Carrington. I was in the theater, getting emotional, but I realized the movie wasn't that good.

It was entirely because of the soundtrack! Which was just instrumental, orchestral music. A strange reaction, since lyrics are usually required for me to have that kind of reaction. Something about those strings got to me.

Part of "When We Were Young" is the chorus, it almost sounds like crying, how the melody descends downward like weeping.

Two that come to mind that I just can't listen to any more are Queen's "Who Wants To Live Forever?" and David Bowie's "Lazarus."

2 songs break my heart to tears:

Marvin Gaye - "Please Stay (Once You Go Away)"
Alexander O'Neal - "Sentimental"

and also...

Prince - "My Love Is Forever" makes me cry tears of joy

also, The Four Tops - "Still Water (Love)" makes me cry for several reasons, mainly because it has such a haunting and beautiful melody and lyrics sung so beautifully by the late great Levi Stubbs and backing vocals by The Andantes

I forgot about Christmas Song by Dave Matthews. Even heavier than Prince's Christmas song, singing about love and bleeding children.

Exactly! Music is a lifetime spiritual experience for me, too--to help us through this journey called life. Always will be. nod

Or in other words - If you are never moved by music, you have missed the point.

Earth Wind and Fire - "I write a song for you". It's a absolutely beautiful song in every sense of the word. I loved it as a young child and even more as a old man.

We are cut from the same cloth...i used to try to sing along with Philip Bailey's acrobatic vocal runs near the end of that joint in the house as a kid, and my father would get so pissed off at the noise...

..."WILL YOU JUST LET THEM SING AND SHUT THE F*** UP!...DAMN!"

good times...great song...

"All n ALL" is on the short list of greatest albums ever made by anyone, anywhere ..it might be THE ONE... no disrespect to "Spirit", "I Am" or "Thats The Way Of The World"
