The Drake/Prince Connection

Just Found Out That Larry Grahm Is Drake's Uncle

Does this mean that Larry has somehow been instrumental in his career? Or at the very least helped him gain entry into some spaces early on? Is Prince responsible by 6 degrees (or less) of separation?

Thoughts?

Thoughts:

-

Uncle Larry has more musical talent in his thumb than Drake has in his body.

Drake is better as an actor/entertainer. He's got an army of folks making his "music."

Larry can barely get a table at Olive Garden these days, much less call up a record executive to talk about his nephew.

Nah, Larry Graham is a very famous man who has always been revered, respected and idolized by a vast majority of musicians and industry executives...i overstand that some Prince fans view him as some sort of villain, but thats not how the rest of the world (especially in the recording industry) views him.

Also Drake was on the scene before Prince's transition. Is it possible that Prince himself was enlisted by Larry for contacts and aquaintances to help usher Drake thru the doors and put him on? Afterall, Larry had that weird guru-like hold over Prince for years

Has larry played on a drake song? I dont think so. So it doesnt look like drake is that invested in his uncles musical history.

Or his Uncle doesn't care for Drake's music. I know I turn the radio over whenever Drake comes on.

It's the same song, like a decade&1/2 running.

I agree. Larry Graham is on any knowlegable top 10 to 15 list of greatest bassists in popular music history. He's forgotten more about funk than anyone around here will ever know. I've never met him but man I have HEARD him and the cat was incredible at his craft, nothing else matters.

Some fans might hate me saying this but when i saw gcs with prince on theneew power soul tour, gcs did a better, funkier set than prince. Im still not keen on larrys personal influence on prince but prince was looking for something and he found it in larry and JW, he made that choice, so hey

Do you need a band-aid? ...maybe some crutches?...exactly how does that question "make someone feel bad"?...whose emotions are that fragile?...save your knight-in-shining-armor antics for a more worthy cause...

I didn't know, what's more, I don't care. The music industry is and always will be unattainable for most people. It's full of people who are related and it's as nepotistic as most other industries.

This is my point. Apparently unbeknownst to a lot of people, Drake was an industry baby. His father was also in a band with Larry Grahm early on. I'm sure he spent lots of time in the studio with them and backstage at gigs. Larry Grahm was deep in Prince's fold. It's not so far of a stretch that Drake could have benefited from the connection in his own career.

Drake's father, Dennis Graham, is also a professional drummer who is credited as having been a member of Jerry Lee Lewis' band
