The Two Biggest Tours Right Now - Pick One

The two biggest grossing tours right now are The Eras Tour with Taylor Swift, and The Renaissance Tour with Beyoncé. They're both smashing records, employing hundreds of people, and upping the economy in every city is lands in. The attendee to either concert - combining travel, hotel, clothes, merch, tickets, food, etc. - spends around $1300 on average.

So the question is - if you had a change to attend just one of the tours, which one would you go to, and why?

And for you naysayers who are above such things, and wouldn't attend either - have a seat. We're having fun here.

I'd choose Beyoncé. Only because I'm not that familiar with TayTay's music. I watched her documentary Miss Americana recently and gained a new perspective and appreciation for her as an artist who wants to control her career, and has a definite point of view in her life at this moment.

Taylor Swift.

So long as Kanye does not get on the stage when people are chearing and clapping at the end to say Beyonce deserves this adulation more.

Also so long as she does not sing the full 10 minutes of "All To Well". The audience response could be worse than an Emo being forced to see the Barbie movie.

She does, at the end of the Red section.

I'm going Swifty for the same exact reasons you chose Beyonce. The only Swift track I am familiar with is her maudlin cover of Earth, Wind & Fire's "September".

She should really make this a part of her stage show. Put like a Kanye cardboard cutout in front of a screen replaying the footage, then Swift kicks a hole in the cutout and throws it in the crowd as "Shake It Off" kicks in.

Hey look, two Swift songs I'm familiar with, now I'm ready for the show.

Taylor Swift. No doubt whatsoever. I was at a Beyonce soundcheck once. She was more bothered about camera angles than how she sounded. However, I will say, she sounded great but it did make her appear a bit shallow 🤔

I've not seen Taylor Swift but I like her material and attitude 😎✌️🎸

Taylor Swift. I'm not really a fan of either artist but there are more Taylor Swift songs that I like than there are Beyonce songs than I like.

I like a good amount of Beyonce songs by sheer virtue of her working with my favorite modern songwriter The-Dream every album, from "Single Ladies" to "Break My Soul".

It's just she's like the worst possible singer to butcher this great material like she does. And I'm someone who can see the virtue in a Jill Jones or Apollonia performing Prince songs. Not Yonce aell up on her mowth like liqaour. An evening of Beyonce screaming over every track by track regardless of the tempo or genre is like a possible premise of an A Clockwork Orange reboot.

Also this thread had me YouTube Swifty for a milisecond and she's like bantering with the crowd in the middle of a downpour, all drenched with her piano covered in a pool of water. They cut the song itself but she sure seems classy and devoted to her fans.

After a quick Google,

Are they bringing back the Justin Guarini / Kelly Clarkson American Idol world tour like they brought back Lollapalooza or something?

No, Fantasia has made albums and toured successfully as a solo artist, for years...moreso than any of the other American Idol alumni

A Taylor Swift show would be more enjoyable because I am generally unfamiliar with her songs or really her in general. The two Swift songs I listed imply almost like a more cookie-cutter Beck duality in style. Also I have never met a Swift fan so that could be a better show sociologically.

Wheras I'm confident being moderately familiar with a good chunk of Beyonce's career through the many maaaany songs one of my favs The-Dream has written for her, as well as having caught a good portion of her HBO special I can say with 100% certaintly her belting out and sapping all the nuance out of these often great songs with her bombast and the whole superwoman imagery with the stage fans whooshing and all that grandiose pomp.... yeah, not my thing.

Even that YouTube rec I got with Swifty carrying on her concert and bantering with the crowd while soaked in the active drenching rain. Beyonce ain't doing that. And I'm OG hater, Destiny's Child sucked, too, I only stan "Bills, Bills, Bills" annnd "Bug-a-Boo" kindasorta, mostly for being a blatant novelty "No Scrubs" ripoff.

To be fair, "Bug A Boo" was written by Kandi Burruss and Kevin Briggs - both also wrote "No Scrubs." It's interesting that all 4 DC members are listed as cowriters, because the band didn't like the song when Burruss and Briggs were coming up with the beat and hooks.

That was the last video with LeToya and Latavia.

Remember how Chante Moore told everyone that her "If I Gave Love" was rewritten by Darkchild for J-LO as "If You Had My Love," and it pretty much canceled Moore's version? I sorta think that "Bug A Boo"'s failure to really chart (compared to other songs at the time) was because people heard that similarity. It's a cute song, but it lacked something that "No Scrubs" clearly had. Moore never released her song as a single, but it was the first track on that album.

And with Destiny's Child - I do think a lot of their music was just shitty. I fucking hate "Survivor." I sorta dig "Jumpin' Jumpin'," "Bootylicious," and can 50/50 deal with "Independent Women."

"Say My Name," "No No No," and "Bills Bills Bills" are just irritating at this point. Their music didn't age that well, IMO.

good factoids here, thx.

Yeah those later-period Destiny's Child were when I still watched MTV and TRL--probably the reason I stopped. Those tracks were lame the first or second time, let alone 273,374,627 plays later. It's probably why I like "Bills, Bills, Bills," it was the closest they had to a regular moderately-successful single vs. mega hits. Though it's definitely approaching overplayed territory with how often it gets piped into supermarkets now.

They're PRICY. Of course, they're huge tours. Taylor's Reputation Tour was pretty big, as was The Formation Tour with its monolith and weird ass catwalk.

So free would be a determining factor. haha

Taylor Swift!

She was here in KC for 2 nights, I couldn't believe the impact she had. Downtown KC lit buildings up in her honor, they changed street signs to her name, 1000's of beaded bracelets. Celebrating her for days!

Every stadium she went to was sold out, all kinds of celebrities and their kids attended.

The celebrities that joined her on stage.

I've never seen anything like it, where ever she went.

I don't see that with anybody else, including Bey.

Bey's played out.

Kanye interrupted Taylor to gas up Beyonce, that last bit always gets left out. She's always been overhyped/overproduced/oversold/over-gassed up by her deranged stans.

Meanwhile Swift's got a literal army and it's like where did these people come from? They're like meek and unseen until she comes to town. Surely she works with and is reliant on other songwriters/producers to an extent, but no way it's like Beyonce where she's got like the literal Superfriends or Avengers of songwriters/producers assembled for every album she puts out like they all drop everything and form like Voltron. Even Destiny's Child era, Beyonce has just always given such a manufactured/packaged/stepford-wife vibe.

Maybe Swift's manufactured too, but it's a preferable manufacturation image-wise.

I went a couple of years ago to her Reputation Tour and it was fantastic. It didn't even compare to the ERAS tour.

You are right that army shows up!

I have never seen anything like it!
