At first I was like "well no Prince maybe they're being super specific to rock" then George Clinton's right there in the Top 10.
They also emphasize "band" but uhhh.... "& the Revolution", "& the New Power Generation"... err.....


Mick Jagger's gotta be the most overrated singer in rock history. Even as a rock junkie teen it was like... what's the big deal? These articles go on and on about his lame strut since I was a little kid. Shit's whack. Prince's dancing seemed very "Mick Jagger-esque" pre-Purple Rain, and that's easily his worst period of dancing/performance of his entire career. It ain't cool, it's corny.

And vocally all the other classic rock bands got their share of allegations of stealing OG blues songs here and there, yet Jagger's the only one who seems like he's trying to do straight karaoke wheel-of-impressions of the OGs. At least Robert Plant what have you puts his own spin on it when he's jacking Willie Dixon records.


Thom Yorke second most overrated singer in rock history, and I used to ride with Radiohead like everyone else in my gen. I almost spit up at this part, however:

"Does Thom Yorke have the prettiest falsetto in modern music?" wtf...

Kinda shocked Robert Smith made it to #11. That must be good will from the last tour... I'm a huge huuuuge Cure fan and Cure fans seem to love his voice, uh.... sometimes with rock or artists/bands in general having good tracks hypnotizes people into having a positive association with the voice singing over the songs they love which then morphs into "... this dude's one of the greatest singers of all time..."


Biggest snub besides Prince: Jonathan Davis the KoRn guy. You may hate nu metal but this dude changed the game and came out with a completely original style of vocals, that are actually good in addition to unique.

The only ranking I agree with on this list is Kurdt Kobain. De la Rocha should be like 40 spots higher and Lou Reed's Bob Dylan-on-mescaline struggle vocals needed to have been universally banned from these type of lists in 1970. And Chester Bennington is easily Top 10 worthy, gtfo with this schleppin' it near the bottom of the list...

These lists are a str8 mess.

yeah, I love George Clinton, too, but it seems like those Parliament/Funkadelic records (geez I really hate grouping them together but that's a battle I'll clearly never win, so fugit) were highly dependent on a chorus of different vocals and vocalists.

Like "Can You Get to That" one of my favs... can we really say GC is the "vocalist" of that solely?

Some of the rock critics even try to frame "The Revolution" as this big separate facet of his creative zenith that Wendy & Lisa helped architect just as importantly--it's a big part of the reason they get blasted here, but it's because the media rolls with it because they genuinely perceive "The Revolution" as a more traditional-style "rock band" almost borderline like your Lennon/McCartney, Nelson/Melvoin/Coleman... a lot of it's probably due the Purple Rain movie plot / story climax.

And if he ever announced a reunion these same rock publications would've be mass covering it and categorizing it as a "reunion of the 80s rock band Prince & The Revolution".
