Sinead O'Connor and the story of her second Prince cover - after vow 'never to sing another'

An interesting article from Sky News with a fantastic cover of I Would Die 4 U she provided vocals for I had no idea existed: https://news.sky.com/stor...r-12928791

It is a lovely cover. Great wispy vocals throughout and I love the way she whispers at the end of the lines. I wasn't even aware of this until this morning. Sadly, that's the way the music industry is, there's too much product shoved in our faces so we don't hear anything else. Sinead knew, she tried to tell us. It was interesting to read her letter to Miley Cyrus too. Yes, it was a bit of a rant, but there's a lot of truth in there too. Can we really allow people to dictate to us? Is the music we listen to important enough to stand up for? The main question seems to be are we prepared to dig into some real artistry and turn our backs on a system that victimises artists? There are so many great artists out there who get overshadowed by fame seekers who will just 'do whatever it takes'. We need to be vigilant. Sinead had her issues but the truth is in her argument. The music industry has us by the ears. Hit them where it hurts, don't buy into their games and schemes. Demand justice for new artists. Prince would, as he always did.

Thanks. I've never been a big fan of reggae, and tend to view covers sceptically. I really like this though.

First of all - I LOVE SINEAD

My Mount Rushmore is Prince / Madonna / Sinead / Peter Gabriel

I have been a fan of her's throughout all of the 90's (minus Am I Not Your Girl? sheesh - that was her New Power Soul for me ... but anyway)

Even seen her play a steakhouse in Southern California a few years ago - I am not kidding and it was incredible - people were going crazy, it was so wonderful

Was prepared to hate this but I really dig it

There is something about their energies that syncs - even though they hated eachother...

And for the record... I believe Sinead's account of that crazy night.

Prince was such an *sshole sometimes (come on, you know it's true) - especially when it came to Women & Gay People... not to mention White People - but don't get me started on that, I don't want arguments.

I wish they got on b/c there is something about his words and her voice that gives me chills.

Maybe it's because they were both (sometimes) misunderstoond geniuses.

I remember watching this cotinuing Youtube documentary series on Prince where they piece his history togehter through interviews and I believe it was Cat that said Prince hated the fact that Sinead did a better version of his song than he did. That he was like that all the time and was very jealous. It could explain things.

I think I watched the same thing - I LOVE that channel.... They are informative and I actually LEARN stuff!

And yes, her version kicks P's version's ass (especially the Hits version... ooof)

Just listened. Fabulous cover indeed. Wouldn't this on a vinyl b-side to NC2U be just lovely? Won't happen here, but in one of those other better universes it did. biggrin
