I am not surprised. She had been battling health issues for a while. But still deeply saddened. I adored her. Tina was the consummate live performer for me. No one else came close to the energy she brought on stage. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

I loved her so, so very much. My heart really broke when I heard the news today. I had just started doing some work and had to stop. I sat there and just bawled for about 15 minutes. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Tina Turner Dies: âQueen of Rock and Rollâ Was 83BYON MAY 24, 2023CATEGORIES: LATEST NEWS
Legendary singer, entertainer and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Tina Tuner has passed away at 83. A statement from Turnerâs family confirmed the news on Wednesday: âTina Turner, the âQueen of Rockân Rollâ has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in KĂŒsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.â An additional message was posted on Turnerâs official Facebook page: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly. (© Peter Lindbergh)
Born Anna Mae Bullock in Brownsville, Tennessee, she would grow in notoriety and fame thanks to a star turn as the lead singer in the Ike & Tina Turner Revue, eventually branching out into a decades-long solo career that would follow.
Tina Turner became known as one of the most gifted and cherished singers and entertainers â as well as a high-profile advocate of womenâs rights as it pertains to domestic abuse.
Turner went public with the abuse she dealt with during her marriage to Ike Turner several times, which Rolling Stone details in its remembrance piece: Turner had first gone public about her troubled marriage to Ike in a People magazine interview in 1981, but I, Tina, delved deeper. The result was not just a best-selling memoirâwhich, arguably, set the template for other rock stars to pen theirsâbut a book that gave hope to survivors of domestic abuse, and Turner herself helped ensure that domestic violence was addressed in the culture at large. âI donât want to depend on a man to give me money,â she told RS in 1986. âI donât want to be afraid anymore. I used to think I had to get married to help me get the things I wanted in life. When I realized I could get those things for myself, by myself, I began to like that feeling. I feel if I can secure myself, I wouldnât have to depend on a man; we would only share love.â All told, Turner has status of being one of the best-selling recording artists of all time, selling more than 100 million records worldwide. She won 12 Grammy Awards, three Grammy Hall of Fame Awards and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. -- "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

You learn ALOT about a person when they die. The outpouring of different people show how in those times we all were not in a BOX. I have seen so many different types of artists that she effected, worked with, toured with, was friends with, shared stages with. People like Lionel Richie, Richard Marx, Sting, The Fixx, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, the stones, Duran Duran, and so many others just showing their love for this woman who broke down walls, barriers, crossed genres, defied age, none of this could happen today, none of this is happening today sad to say.

Tina was a big part of Australian culture. Outside of her music, there was her involvement with Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome and with promoting the NRL Rugby League competition. [Edited 5/27/23 2:04am]

She had always said she was bigger in Europe than in the U.S. ,which I thought was a bad look for the U.S. audience. Why weren't we more appreciate of her when it came to concerts and sales? It was mentioned in the documentary. #3 US (#1 R&B); 5X Platinum #2 UK; 3X Platinum #4 US; Platinum #2 UK; Platinum #31 US; Gold #1 UK; 5X Platinum
#61 US #4 UK (#1 Swizterland); 2X Platinum (Plat in Swiz) #9 UK (#1 Switzerland); Platinum in both #17 US; Platinum #1 UK; Platinum #113 US; Platinum #2 UK; 8X Platinum (FOR A COMPILATION!) Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

When I was a kid in the 80s I used to religiously read Billboard and the charts that used to be on the very last page of each issue of Rolling Stone. The Rolling Stone charts had the top UK I think it was singles and albums, while Billboard had a whole mess of charts for nearly everything but none for the UK (IIRC.) Anyway it always struck me how the British pop charts differed from those in the U.S. and not just in terms of homegrown British talent. There seemed to be black/R&B U.S. music which did much better, if not MUCH better, on the British pop charts then it did in on the U.S. pop charts (I don't mean people like Prince and Michael Jackson both of whom of course were huge pop stars in both countries but people who were solid R&B artists in the U.S. who were fairly big if not huge pop acts in the UK, at least as far as the UK charts would indicate.) This was consistent in my chart reading all throughout the 1980s. [Edited 5/27/23 6:17am] [Edited 5/27/23 6:18am] [Edited 5/27/23 6:22am]

Sad news indeed. Gen X'ers keep losing legends on a regular basis but still hurts. Private Dancer was one of two first cassettes I bought at the record store with my birthday money (Purple Rain was the other one!) Still play my CD-ripped digital files of it on a regular basis. I think most songs hold up and don't sound too dated. Tina also has a very good live version of Let's Pretend We're Married on the 30th Anniversary Edit of Private Dancer, for those looking for any purple influence. RIP

Funny how I've listened to Tina non-stop for the past month before she passed--very odd! I was so into her music I actively went looking for not only the new re-issues on vinyl but oldies. For instance, I didn't know that she put out two solo albums in the 70s after she split with Ike that didn't get much airplay apparently; one called "Rough"--with rock/country-rock/disco flavors, according to reviews and another full-fledged disco album called "Love Explosion." I managed to track down an inexpensive LP of "Rough"--her first after splitting with Ike and don't want to hear it until I get the LP. In the meantime, my first listen to the full album version of the Foreign Affair album on LP. Here's to you, Tina! Your music lives on!

I listened to all of Tina's albums just a couple of months ago. I couldn't find the country one at that point, but listened to Acid Queen, Rough, but I think I missed Love Explosion, then dug into the UK tracklisting for Private Dancer plus the bonus tracks. And so on. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Finally got the "Rough" album (advertised as "like new") until I cleaned it and played it through a few times--now it is Good Plus. After several listens, I think I understand Tina's choices for this album. I think it had more to do where she was in her life than choosing a music direction at the time. IMO only, of course.
