I love Dolly to death. But no one, ever, anyone, no matter, should cover "Purple Rain." There has never been a version that even comes close to doing it justice. It's just too iconic, anthemic, and unique for anyone to ever cover.

A great spread of artists, though, so the collaborations should be interesting.

Edit: Global Icon and recent Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Dolly Parton, has joined forces with some of Rock music's most legendary artists along with today's biggest stars for her first-ever Rock album, Rockstar. The ever-evolving Parton teamed up with an all-star roster of musicians for the 30-song collection which includes 9 original tracks and 21 iconic rock anthems. Rockstar is set for release November 17, and will be available as a 4 LP set, 2 CD set, digital download and on all streaming services.

No disrespect to Dolly Parton's iconic titties, but does anyone really want to hear/buy an album by this 77 year old woman?

I'm into this for a new Simon LeBon duet. This could be interesting.

.

I also think its beautiful that Purple Rain is the only cover song not labeled as a duet. Dolly knows.

Dolly is in a league of her own, like the late Tina Turner, DOLLY has a similar type of respect and I love how she defies the whole AGEist society we live in. Good for her doing this, I mean people get to glued to songs, yes she is touching classics OK we get it, but we act like her version now will erase the original, and considered some have "borrowed" her songs and made their own classics lets be real.

This could be good - If it is I will buy. It could be the Dolly equivalent of Cash's American Recordings.

Certainly not worth any sexism or ageism.

I loved Dolly's bluegrass album Little Sparrow with her cover of Shine by Collective Soul. We used to play it frequently at the store back in the day. I know this is a "rock" album but I'm hoping she has sensible arrangements that showcase her talents.

I feel like I was always going to listen to that record, and just never did. I'll have to put it on my short list. I'm currently going through all of Donna Summer's discography. (I'm 3 records in.) But I'll put Dolly in there.

Here's "Magic Man" with Ann Wilson. This is the "Carl Verison?"

I guess there's a new verse in there?
