Robert Palmer - Addicted to Love... a duet?

So I was today years old when I learned that Robert Palmer wrote "Addicted to Love" as a duet with Chaka Khan. She actually recorded her vocals on the song. But her record company would not allow her to be on the record.

So Palmer went back and re-recorded the song's higher parts himself. The song would be Palmer's only #1 song in the US on May 3, 1986. But it also won Best Male Video at the MTV VMAs despite feminist's objections.

Chaka was a good luck charm, though because she did appear on Steve Winwood's "Higher Love," which beat "Addicted to Love" for 1987 Record of the Year at the Grammy's.

I'd love to hear the duet with Chaka and Robert on "Addicted to Love."

Warner Brothers and her manager Burt Zell claimed she would over saturate the market with the duet and "Destiny" but they released "Destiny" with almost zero promotion as well as not targeting it to Pop/Rock radio where it belonged. Other factors that kept the album at bay that I wont go into. But Can you imagine someone telling Beyonce they dont want her over saturating the market? They would be fired on the spot!

All that would have done is boosted Destiny into actual visibility. I don't even recall it from back then.

I looked at the track list. I don't know one song on there.

Exactly. But "Destiny" still did better than 'C.K." which WB did ZERO promotion. I never heard "Its My Party" on the radio. The album had been out for over a month before I was even aware of it. Disgruntled with the industry, she left the states and move to Europe after that.

They are crazy. They prevented their artist from being part of a #1 pop hit.Their claims of over-saturating the market is bullshit. It's not as if Chaka was putting out new music every few weeks lol
