The only new media I buy now is on vinyl.

Its crazy...started off with vinyl back in the 70s until around 85 when cassettes and then CDs took over. I have so many CDs its insane...but all are in magazines. I do still listen to them occasionally. But for the last 5 years I am back buying vinyl as I am convinced it sounds better. I also like having the artwork again.

I thought I had Nirvana Unplugged In New York on vinyl - not even an original 1994 pressing or anything, and I am sure I could dig out my old CD or tape or (HELLO!) stream it, but I think it would be a nifty record smile I should probably just watch the DVD and call'r good.

Nope!

Why would anyone leave instructions to the fate of their legacy when the leftovers will do whatever they want with it!!?

OR NOT DO ANYTHING WITH IT???

Hmmm???

yeahthat and what nayroo2002 just said. When I'm gone I'm gone and the smart people left around will keep and listen to what I've compiled, or again, the smart people will find a way to recycle the plastic.

For sure the artwork and credits/information is missing on streaming.

I have to actually remind myself that streaming exists. smile

Update: I will be getting new Miley Cyrus on vinyl this weekend after already buying the CD. lol Her booklet actually has lyrics, lists the musicians, everything.

lol Just ordered Bjork's classic "Homogenic" on vinyl... I have to play it back to back with Kate Bush's "Hounds of Love" on vinyl like I did both on CDs back in the '90s. Oh, well... razz lol cool

I'm another one who keeps buying more vinyl when I should be cutting back at this stage in my life. This past month in particular I bought a lot: Lana Del Rey's latest, some Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab repressings of Miles Davis, an earlier pressing of De La Soul's 3 Feet High and Rising with all the samples intact (thanks for the heads up, Cinny!), a pair of vintage French porn soundtracks, so much more...

I did sell around 2/3 of my CD collection on eBay a few years ago after ripping them to an external hard drive so I can still stream them from there at home or from my phone/mp3 player while on the road. Only discs by my A-list artists were kept (Prince, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Janet Jackson, etc.).

I sold a lot of my CD collection, and just threw away a lot of old vinyl. It was actually fun to go through this - for a lot of the discs, I had no recollection when the last time was I had actually listened to this eek

The remaining discs I also seem to not listen to (streaming is just so convenient, and I have high-res streaming, so it sounds great also) - looks like another reduction round is coming up... Most likely I will end up only with my physical Prince collection and 12 inchs (I find these hard to find on streaming...)

highfive
I was at the damn pharmacy and they had 2023 Feet High & Rising on cassette by checkout, and I just know a bunch of people won't be experiencing that album the way it should be.

Cool Breeze On The Rocks had embedded an earworm for me this month just from:
"Rock this world for youuuuu" ( c) Gregory Abbott

I just got an original Gregory Abbott Shake You Down CD, with CBS Canada imprinted right on the charcoal tray spine - $1.

[But that is adding more to my collectio,n even if it doesn't cost much to do it.]

When Joni Mitchell and Neil Young removed their music from Spotify in protest of a neighbouring podcast, I realized one cannot rely on these streaming services.

It definitely could be fun. smile I get a kick when I see the prices on Discogs and eBay - HUNDREDS of dollars for vinyl that either rarely listen to, or prefer them on CD anyway.

Yup, they do. Seems like people don't realize it until they bite the dust--and then there's no back up copies. razz lol In the meantime, although I've gotten some more vinyl albums, I'm also weeding out some I don't listen to. Doing the same with other things also--I ain't gonna be that old lady hoarder if I can help it! lol

biggrin Welp, found the first two Naughty By Nature albums (1991's self-titled debut and 1993's 19 Naughty III) reissued on double vinyl, expanded to include some single-only material from each era.
