I've decided to appreciate Taylor from afar, as a talent. But nothing in my wheel house. But I was fully onboard for her re-recording her albums like that. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I prefer Torta Del Ray, as featured on Man vs. Food season 3.

I imagine it is similar to when TLC did it (possibly on Prince's advice). Those are the versions they license out now. They're pretty close, I think, but a keen ear or people who know those songs note for note can hear it. It tricked me at first though. Just sounded like a slight remix.

I dismissed TAYLOR early on because I saw her as nothing but another pop teen, till I realized that she wrote everything, she really didnt have eight million other focuses, and over the last five albums especially the last 3 I think she is one the most talented in the mainstream for sure. The hate for her is similar to the Tom Brady hate was in the NFL, I get it and understand it, but saying she has no talent? are you serious? she cant write? she cant play? she does all those things, she doesnt need forty seven producers and co writers, also she made GOOD on her I am going to re-do my albums talk where Prince could not get that ball rolling ever.

I would have to say BEYONCE and even Mariah Carey before Taylor. Her base is pretty manic with her merchandise, RSD stuff and things like that, forget about it, they are camping out already for her APril RSD release. Taylor is a bit more hands on than any of the others I feel at least, the taking back music/masters, the ticketmaster monopoly though I feel they will not beat TM by any means it put some light on how insane pricing and fees are for some. I did dismiss early on mainly because she fell into that mold and I wasnt really into that stuff, I have gotten more into her now at least the last three to four albums which I think show more growth of a pop mainstream artist than I have seen in a bit.

The only issue not really issue but you have to put an ** on Prince, Whitney and Bowie because it was all Death related, so if you do that its TAYLOR and the Beatles and considering one hasnt done anything new as a band in 54 years its really an accomplishment for both.

One thing I appreciate about Taylor Swift is when she first came out I remember her saying she was obsessed with "Behind The Music" (weren't we all?) and how she studied them thoroughly because they all had the same trajectory. She said she didn't want her career to go down the same road and I see she's learned all her lessons. I'm not a fan but even I could recognize early on her ability to paint a vivd picture. She has, does and always will have the time of her life at an awards show. And she's come up with the modern, zeitgeist slogan that has gone over everyone's head ("It's me. Hi. I'm the problem it's me!")

As for Lana Del Rey I'm still confused by the hate. But I'm a sucker for the melodramatic. The strings. There's a danger, an edge, to her aesthetic missing from every other female artist out right now. It's roadtrips in fast cars. Needles and pills. Guns and violence. Natural Born Killers chic. It's toxic men and sex for better or worse. Then there's the other side. The depression behind gilded cages. There's the americana of yosemite and american flags and Jackie Kennedy. The feeling of nostalgia without the authenticity of it. Talk about vivid pictures or movies of the mind. Lana accomplishes it.

It just seems like a contradiction. You applaud Swift for doing it but didn't want Prince to do it?

She's all right, it seems like she's kind of ripping off a lot that Lee Hazlewood, Nancy Sinatra grandiose cowboy psychadelia style from the 60s, though.

Taylor is very in tune with what Prince represented. That whole scene in in the video for "Anti-Hero"??? "Whatever skin we're in
we all need 2 b friends" | |

She used to namedrop Nancy Sinatra all the time when she first came out. But I have to admit to not being familiar with Lee Hazlewood and you ain't never lied.

The real missed opportunity was him not re-recording 1999 for 1999. I know he wasn't close to The Revolution at the time, but what might have been even cooler would've been to re-record with The New Power Generation (or whatever band he was using in the late 90's). Not a rearrangement, but what the songs would sound like with the style and chops of that new band. I think that would've been something special. But as it stands 1999 is the biggest missed opportunity in music history.

I love the fact that (and tell me if i'm the only one doing this), I love the fact that I will always read threads like this to be Prince is the one doing the mentioning. It's possible. God only knows how much written forward the storyline of the music business actually was written. And I don't care how crazy I am to not want an entertainment entity to be dead. Least I'm honest about that.

I love her...I actually discovered her accidentally on iTunes when she released her first album "Lana Del Rey AKA Lizzy Grant", which was eventually removed. Her songs are all very interesting, and she seems to play different types of characters on them all. There is a very Lynchian quality to her that I truly dig.

Taylor Swift has major talent. At first I wasn't to hip on her, but on her Reputation Stadium tour my daughters and got damn good tickets. She was amazing!
