Rihanna Tops Artist Chart 1st time thanks to Super Bowl

https://www.billboard.com...235257978/

Also, a Prince mention in article:
"Five of Rihanna’s albums chart the latest Billboard 200: Anti (No. 8), Good Girl Gone Bad (No. 15), Unapologetic (No. 18), Loud (No. 26) and Talk That Talk (No. 49). She becomes just the seventh act in the last 50 years to chart at least five albums in the top 50, joining Taylor Swift (who has claimed at least five titles in the region 18 times, including on the latest chart), Mac Miller (once following his death in 2018), Prince (three times, following his death in 2016), Whitney Houston (three times, following her death in 2012), the Glee cast (once in 2010) and Garth Brooks (four times in 1992)."

MrSharon

So that's why the performers don't get paid for doing the Superbowl. The exposure they get helps their albums sales.
Makes plenty of sense
Even though I still think Rihanna's Superbowl performance was one of the worst of all time
Nothing stood out about her performance IMO.The backward dancers put on a better show and lip syncing automatically disqualifies her
Prince's performance is still the best

Bruno Mars was the best one. Prince's guitar was out of tune during the climax. Close, no ceegar.

Rihanna's was abominable. Her fans should be ashamed of themselves trying to gaslight online society into believing that performance was anything but the absolute bottom of the barrel worst. Even the pre-1993 halftimes that were like USO Shows were better.

Prince's out of tune guitar gets a pass from me. It was a torrential downpour, and he played live!

He could have easily lip-synced to a flawless backing track while holding a prop guitar.

As if the biggest show on earth is about technical precision. (It's not a jazz or classical recital, people.) It's about showmanship and transcendence, which Prince delivered like only he could.

Rihanna gets a pass because pregnant. She wisely covered with dozens of dancers, which were fun to watch.

As someone with a fear of heights, I also must give her respect.

This is why I stopped looking at Billboard eons ago, countless charts that they have. "Top ten songs for a full moon" thats when I said later

Are you a guitar player? Cuz playing a guitar that is out of tune isn't the worst thing in the world. It's pretty rock and roll. He wailed on 3 guitars that night and while the Symbol guitar is certainly out of tune, anyone with eyes and a tiny understanding of the environment could roll with it. Name another time you've heard P play a guitar out of tune? If it wasn't intentional, I bet you can't count em on a single hand. You can't diminish the whole 15 min performance because of a 15 second crunchy riff. The rest of the playing past the point of the sheet going up is perfectly fine.

As for Bruno and Red Hot Chili Peppers being the best halftime show... No. Bruno has a single iconic song and he didn't even do it that night (I don't even know if Uptown Funk was released by then).

Even Janet and Justin were way more fun than Bruno.

Your emphasis on how infrequent this ever occurs in the Prince canon is why I consider it a markedly more significant blight than "rock and roll" bands who cultivate a more grungy anti-solo aesthetic. It's not like this was the Velvet Underground circa 1968 halftime show.

I had a "Squier" strat back in the day, those things wouldn't hold tune for more than 20 seconds. I had my ProCo Rat all set up trying to emulate teh Kurdt Kobain. This is what intentional "rock and roll" out of tune embracement goes like: https://youtu.be/wWPpKgi-ELU?t=52

Again, different scale. It's like if Prince ever showed up looking like he rolled out of bed it would garner some comments, yet dude in the hyperlink will remain unchecked for always rocking that aesthetic.

You must admit that what Kurt does in that video and what Prince did is a far cry from each other. While you see it as a blight, it just seems to me that the performance was everything Prince ever was - which indeed included intentional imperfections that created colors of their own. And again, it was one guitar of the three he played.
