A friend and I agree on a lot of music. But he's a big ol' fan of Wilco. He and his wife travel to countries to see them. I think I used to know one of their songs, at most.


What are you thoughts on the band Wilco?

yeah I used to frequent a lot of indie plop haunts back in the day and this was #1 on the list of bands I couldn't just not get into, but couldn't even fathom how they even had a fanbase. A massive, devoted fanbase as you imply.

Not even gonna pull up the Wikipedia but Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was their's, right? Like you, couldn't name a song despite checking them out at some point, the impact just shakes away dissolving into nothingness like an Etch-a-Sketch.

Wilco dudebro sounds like he's doing an SNL Thom Yorke impression on this track. Thom Yorke on valium and Funyuns. Sad bastard muziq is my bread and butter and this just doesn't pass muster.

But at this point, why would anyone in Wilco be trying to impersonate anyone else? They've been around just shy of thirty years.

And to be technical, Yorke started being active in music a year or so after Wilco's members formed.

2001 would have been prime Radiohead circlejerk era in indie plop culture, though. Never got a Thom Yorke vibe from them before, maybe it was just the moment.

Through the strength of media attention I tried to pay attention to the band for a second, but nothing really stuck with me. I guess it's just not my scene.

I paid a little more attention to the band's guitarist Nels Cline, however, and he does some pretty cool stuff. His name appears on the credits of some albums I've managed to collect. Does he still affiliate with that band?
