So I can't speak on beyonces recent work I really stopped listening to her awhile ago but I am going to guess all these album of the year nods were just because you are Beyoncé just like she's Adele and she is nicki M and she's Taylor etc....

stan culture. The only reason they even got nominated so their Twitter culthives don't cancel the Grammys.

This is why people view "hollywood" and "awards" and shows like this, as elite people patting themselves on the back. Because the left responds to TWITTER outrage, like now Harry Styles is under fire, and I am sure he will issue an apology and say HOW he hurt some people, this is why I cant evern watch this nonsense because its all BS

[Edited 2/7/23 6:42am]

Exactly.

Just a bunch of well earned artists,

most of them normal people thrown up in the air as stars,

often egocentric,

mostly poor balanced real people too,

so much wanting to be in the spotlights,

and often not smart enough to see what they put themselves into,

then all together in one room,

for the world to see and to wait for what goes wrong.

But if all goes as planned, we all want to gossip and find somthing to shit-bitch about.

Just life the way they and we want it to be.

Awards shows... there are just too much awards (shows).

It's also so American at the same time, to be awarded, and to be the best, or the first,

the constant need to shine and to stand out, for whatever it takes.

The true hunt for the top, with a final fucked-up feel of freedom.

All very interesting as the human condition.

Well now JAY Z weighed in on Beyonce's album of the year loss.

. “Look what it’s done to the culture. Look how the energy of the world moved. They play her whole album in the club. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that. The whole entire joint — like, everything?! Every remix is amazing. Everyone’s inspired. It has inspired the world. Every remix is better than the other one,” he gushed. “It’s inspiring creativity. When it just inspires creativity, that’s an album. That has to be Album of the Year. It has to be.” I mean to be honest I look at some of what JAY is saying and sorry but I am getting that AT ALL with any artist on this show, not saying they are not talented they are all in their own way, but if you are telling me Music today is shaping culture, sorry I don't see that as a whole at all. New to JAY they play alot of albums in the clubs in full that never get any kind of recognition, even in the dance/club category. So honestly I already predict her next album whenever that is will get the token award just to silence this which is my problem with all these "elite" award shows now. I mean if JAY wants to get real about this, how about the ROCK industry that never sees this show at all, unless its OZZY or Dave Grohl or Metallica forced to do a lame duet with some pop artist, ROCK which is SOLELY responsible for the rise now in Physical sales of music, but JAY owns TIdal so he don't care about sales, total fake.

Hmm don't think Jay is the most objective judge here.

Next let's find out what Beyoncé's parents think!

Not saying Harry's great. He seems like a safe choice, despite being a former boy band member. Don't think any of them has won such a big award before. (Right? Please don't tell me Timberlake won Album of the Year.)

Whew. Like Prince, Timberlake was nominated twice for Album, but didn't win.

Though Timberlake has won more Grammys with 10 to Prince's 7, Prince has more nominations with 35 to Timberlake's 31.

Note that these are little more than curiosities for me. I know they mean virtually nothing.

This is more than likely the main reason why she hasn't won AOTY.

All these artists presume they should win an award that, depending on which way the wind blows, anyone could win.

Since Lemonade there's been way too much hype surrounding Beyonce's albums.

And her winning for Sasha Fierce and "Beyonce" were hardly sure things.

Next she'll be pulling her albums from consideration like Drake, Frank Ocean and The Weeknd.

And what would've happened if Soul Sonic hadn't pulled their album from consideration?

Are we to assume people would've accepted that?

And why? What's the difference?

Agree, and what is going to happen when she gets even older and has to deal with AGEISM which is a major reason the Grammies turns away artists, because years back it caved in to people calling them the GRANNIES when people like Bob Dylan and ironically Bonnie Raitt would win album of the year awards, or when a country album would win, or when Herbie Hancock. So there is no such thing as a sure thing ever with this stuff, I think Taylor Swift is doing her best music ever and full albums ever but she consistently loses as we know, she won a video award this year. Two years ago when Springsteen did "Letter to You" i was sure he was going to get nominated, he got nothing, one of his best albums in two decades critically acclaimed, debut at number 2, but again hes old, hes not a streaming artist, though his older stuff and others older stuff oddly streams more than the young artists do. But saying you deserved to win is subjective and petty when you have more than any artist in history, artists like this need to start having some humility

Renaissance is a fantastic album. It deserved to win. Never seen so many people weigh in on music they've never listened to.

Anyway, as someone else mentioned, the Grammys haven't mattered since 1987 at least. Who cares about the metrics other than to be celebratory that a talented black woman is the most decorated artist? And btw, her albums are good. And they pretty much always have been. Anyone saying otherwise is just bitter and old and it's unbecoming of your age so shame on u, cheeky old coots.

Btw the Sam Smith stuff is so funny to me because I find him to be the most horrid and corny lgbt artist ever. I always have, even now that he is agender or whatever is going on with him. Seems to be in his Demi Lovato phase which is kinda funny to see when it's a chunky white guy with blonde tips wearing a size 89 corset.

Oh and btw how come it's always artists who don't make music or who make good but bland music who are crying about the popularity contest. That is also unbecoming of their age. I like Jill but she sounds deranged and Andre sounds insecure. Oh guess what, that was always both their gigs since day 1 so no surprise there.

I listen to hundreds of artists a year, judging by my streaming service wrap ups. Maybe people don't know where to find new music. And if the award shows matter so much then you probably don't. Lord knows the people who actually are asked to attend are just fucking around and getting drunk together all night because most of them know it's a wankathon but it's also a cultural touchstone.

They're good-to-great albums technically because the industry dictates it.

Her label / the industry has ensured she works with only the best songwriters like Terius "The-Dream" Nash, one of the real geniuses behind her work. She's one of their 3 chosen performers that generate $, so they will continue to give her top priority to continue to generate $.

She's still an awful singer and a mediocre talent, however. I'll take The-Dream's vocal demos any day of the week, at least he's not yelling over every track when the song doesn't even call for bombast.

andre is commenting on the diversity of the artists they nominate not the validity of the ones they have nominate. His point is it seems they recycle the same artists every year in these categories showing the lack of the Grammies actually listening to what is out there, there are millions of artists ou there and when you nominate according to a fear that your award show will get ratings (which still struggle) then you aren't listening to all that's out there you are looking at numbers and just nominating, and then tossing in a few token nominees to make it look like you are diverse with listening to releases, which they are not, this is what Andre was pointing out in his post.

The NY Times was saying that she didn't win because of "systemic racism"

GOOD GRIEF - she has 32 Grammy's and everyone undeservingly kisses her ass - get a fucking clue

She actually deserves to be punished for ruining Prince's grammy performance with her clunky dancing and typical over-singing

And her husband whining about her not winning... what a bunch of spoiled assholes

I can only imagine how those children are going to turn out

And I have to say it

If a white artist played South Africa in the 80's and then showed up at the Grammy's and won an RnB award and then had the nerve to thank the black community for creating the category = CANCELLED

She did the same fucking thing but she just gets away with it

It's reverse racism and homophobia all wrapped up into one

I am amazed at how all the 'woke' people are coming down on Madonna

All of the meme's, etc are f*cking vile and awful and uncalled for

The degree to which people think they can shit on her is revolting

(Im not saying the people on this thread are shitting on her, they are just making observations and yes, she probably went too far and it may be a shock to see her this way)

She is a human being - how the hell do people think it is OK to treat someone like that?

She has a larger than life reputation because she is clearly a strong person but she has feelings and children who see people blatantly disrespecting their mom

How would they feel if someone said this kind of stuff about their mother.

One meme has her face next to Bette Davis in What Ever Happened to Baby Jane

Another has her face next to a goblin and it goes on and on

I AM ONLY USING THIS NEXT PARAGRAPH AS AN EXAMPLE, DON'T COME FOR ME

But if I posted a picture of Lizzo next to a fat cow - I would be crucified

Of course, I never would - it is disrespectful, hurtful, cruel and wrong

I am only using this as an example

For her, we have to be 'body positive' and can't make the observation

But it is Ok to do it to someone else...

Hmmm .. gee, I wonder why

Maybe Madonna knows she screwed up and went too far.

Maybe she feels really insecure about it (hence the filters all the time), maybe she feels ugly

And what do people do? Make her feel worse

This would not be acceptable behavior if it were other people

Instead of criticizing her,,, actually, it isn't even criticism, it is hatred and cruelty

Maybe we should be asking ourselves why someone would be compelled to take such drastic measures to avoid looking older

i am disgusted at the hypocrisy

We can't criticize anyone for anything without getting cancelled but it's Ok to bash this person

Oh and while I am at it..

Dave Chappele gets a Grammy for a performace where he talks shit about trans people?

Really? ... really?

Where the f*ck is the outrage?

Apparently, I guess he is forgiven

Again... Gee, I wonder why

And Beyonce has the goddamn BALLS to thank the queer community after she performs in Dubai.
What a fucking pair of balls.. what a goddman fucking set of balls on her

Yet she is just excused! What a joke!

Where the fuck is the outrage?

And meanwhile - has their been a bigger ally than Madonna?

Ally isn't even the correct word for what she did for gay people

And even the gays bash her and laugh about it

It is sick

And once again.. Gee, I wonder why

And don't even get me started on the 'cultural appropriation' angle... anyone else would be called out.. but she cannot be touched.. Gee, I wonder why

There are unfair double-standards that I have grown so tired of

I usually keep this stuff inside but I am so saddened that people think it is OK to single someone out and humiliate them

Not to mention when the preach the exact opposite

it is no wonder Republicans think we are stupid

It looks like we are just as hollow as they are

and please pardon the edits.. typos.

Lil Kim has had a lot of continued hrash words about her extensive plastic surgery. She looks zero like she used to look before. But to her credit, she's addressed it, talked about how her esteem was in the toilet, suffered abuse, etc and felt she needed to change herself. Then it went awry after that.

We def don't have to treat Madonna differently. She's just infuriated me with her bloated ass face, her wearing grills all the time (which affects her speech), et al. I don't care that she's 64, or anything. I've unfollowed her on S.M. because I just don't get her anymore. The gays loved her, connected with her, found their voice amplified by her, but now... I've zero idea what she's doing. I never thought I'd feel so disconnected from her, but ... okay boomer. Keep buying out those botox clinics.
