Songwriters Hall of Fame 2023 Inductees

I kinda love this list. Typically six are inducted, but there was a tie, so it's seven this year.

Jeff Lynne of Electric Light Orchestra. ELO is one of my favorite groups of all time.

Gloria Estefan of Miami Sound Machine. I still feel like she goes underrated and unnoticed so much for her songwriting.

Glen Ballard - who wrote huge hits for Wilson Phillips, Michael Jackson, Dave Matthews, and produced Jagged Little Pill for Alanis Morisette. I remember her saying when she walked into Ballard's studio, it had a lot of yellow in it and she felt that was a happy and bright color to work in, so she knew he was the guy.

Sade Adu of Sade. Maybe this will pull her out of hiding and put some damn music out.

Liz Rose, who has written more than a dozen songs with the likes of Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert and more. She's also part of Love Junkies.

Snoop Dogg - nuff said.

Teddy Riley - credited with creating New Jack Swing (we know better, but he did make it popular), and wrote hits for Bobby Brown, Keith Sweat, Michael Jackson, and more.

To be eligible, it has two be twenty years since the artist's first commercial release. Some of these are way behind in their recognition.

Im with you on Jeff Lynne and ELO...One of my favorites, too...

And Teddy Riley should have already been in by now..

Snoop Dogg is an A-list celebrity/entertainer, but a Hall Of Fame "SONGWRITER"??...i dont hear/see it...HE didnt even write or perform alot of the hooks on his songs...and his lyrics and verses were very basic and somewhat limited

Im not "putting down Snoop"... hes just not a hall of fame songwriter...give me an example of some of his exemplary songwriting...Dr. Dre's productions carried his hits...Snoop is/was no great songwriter or producer...to see his name mentioned in the same breath as Jeff Lynne is a joke

So, Snoop Dogg is in the songwriter's Hall Of Fame, but Prince isnt?..how stupid is that shit?...i guess glorifying drugs, gang-banging, pimping, and alcoholic beverages, and being a negative role model for young black men & women, will endear you forever to the powers that be, in the recording industry...but some of us already knew that.

Word...i like Snoop too...but if they were gonna induct a hiphop artist, why not Nas, Chuck D., or Tupac ???...Snoop Dogg is more prolific as an actor and as a commercial pitch-man, than a writer of songs/rhymes/lyrics...and any songwriters hall of fame that doesnt include Prince Nelson, is completely fraudulent...

Hiphop artists/acts more deserving than Snoop Dogg

WuTang Clan
Nas
Chuck D/Public Enemy
Tupac
Ice Cube
LL Cool J
Notorious B.I.G.
Andre 3000/Outkast
Eminem
Etc
Etc
Etc

Shit, i'd induct the legendary Tony M. before Snoop Dogg

lol

Most people cant even name more than 2 or 3 legitimate hit records by Snoop, without the assistance of internet searches or streaming service discographies...what a joke.

That first Snoop Dogg album lasted. It still gets the crowd going. The rest were like fad hits of their eras, you make a point about everything outside of 1993.

Esham is the most slept on truly GOAT-level rapper/rap songwriter. Prince-level prodigy, writing/producing his own albums-per-year since the age of 15 in '89 in Detroit. Eminem stole his entire career from him.

Esham was definitely slept on...but he really didnt get much national airplay or exposure...his dark "horrorcore" lyrics kept him relegated to underground status...i used to have his "Mail Dominance" and "Closed Casket" albums.

Great albums. It's like how the rock&roll hall of fame always inducts some "early influence" that people everyone knows covered or was influenced by, Esham might not have ever made it national but so many people he inspired became mainstream or known basically taking his hardcore lyrics and making them more pop accessible.

Chuck D and Public Enemy should've been in first year of eligibility.
