SZA New Album Thoughts? I don't know if I like it or what. Something about her voice. I saw her a few years ago live and felt the same kinda way, almost ambivalent. I want to be excited by her music. if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2

I am just lukewarm to her and almost all the ballyhooed women of modern R&B including Lennox, Sullivan, and Aiko among others. Each time, I read the great reviews I stream the release with anticipation only to be disappointed. I think SZA is somehwat talented. However, like most of her peers, she has a very limited vocal range, avoids melodic phrasing most of the time, and doesn't convey an ounce of soulfulness in her voice. Whatever happened to soul music!?

It's good, it builds upon what she did the last record and there are some moments that I really really like (Far, Good Days, Nobody Gets Me, Kill Bill). It also suffers from a few things: the vibe is pretty depressing and a big downer. If you are particularly happy or benign in your life, SZA will be hard to get into on a normal day nevermind this album (which is a breakup album). It also suffers from the Tik Tokification/Streamification of it all with most songs being shorter than 3 minutes. I really hate that.
