You and me both! That track is just so lush, sweet, and creamy that it just makes you wanna fall in love! LOL!

I can't agree with all of the other covers you listed (a couple I do, though), but I will say D'Angelo's version "Heaven Must Be Like This" is HOT!!! Very old school sounding, almost recreating the song exactly, which I normally hate, but he pulls it off with me here. I'd also add Melissa Morgan's Do Me Baby and Ani DiFranco's When You Were Mine (live) to my list too.

I agree with the Jeffrey Gaines version of 'In Your Eyes'. I didn't even really care for the original.

Who did the original of 'Physical' by NIN? I didn't know it was a cover.

The Specials version of Bob Dylan's "Maggie's Farm".
The Chili Peppers' version of Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues".
Talking Heads version of Al Green's "Take Me to the River" (the live "Stop Making Sense" version).
The Clash's punk/reggae hybrid of Junior Marvin's "Police & Thieves"
I wanna say a Prince cover song, but I don't think he's done any justice when covering songs.

thanx 4 all th ereplies here & on the 'worst cover versions' thread.
i knew this would b a good idea 4 a discussion.
dancing jig

also some more from me:

Just My Imagination (Prince does Temptations)

Makes Me Sweat (beenieman & bigpun do INXS "need u 2nite"...sort of a sample but pretty heavily used.practically a cover)

Come Together (MJ does The Beatles)

With A Little help From My Friends (Bon Jovi do The Beatles/Cocker ...this is from their MTV EveningWithBonJovi video from the early 90s.jon's voice & the band is just outstanding)

The Loved One (INXS do The Loved Ones... from their KICK album,an old 60s aussie hit that makes u 4get the original)

Higher Ground (Chilli Peppers do Stevie)

Polk Salad Annie (Elvis does Tony Joe White...i have a few amazing live versions of this one.Elvis working his incredibly funky TCB band, just wild!)

American Woman (Lenny Kravitz does BTO)

She's Always In My Hair (D'Angelo does Prince)

Darling Nikki (Keller Williams does Prince... live acoustic version, its country/western & sounds excellent...the guitar playing is killer.obviously a Prince fan)

Under My Thumb (Michael Hutchnece does The Rolling Stones... with a symphony orchestra.sounds dyvine)

One Of Us (Prince does Joan Osbourne...or whoever did it b4 her)

Voodoo Chile (Prince does Jimi...live at PaisleyPark 9/16/95)

...& probably the best of all:

Who's Loving You (The Jackson 5 do The Temptations... Michael's voice has never sounded better than it did on this recording 30-odd years ago.breathtaking!)

I'm usually not feeling covers like the originals, but there's a few that IMO are better than their grandads. I like
Come together - mj (beatles)
We can work it out - stevie wonder (beatles)
With a little help from my friends - joe cocker (beatles)

Another remake i like is redemptions song performed by stevie wonder. It's a complete contrast to bob's original, and includes a really spectacular vocal performance by Stevie. Not necessarily better but a great example of a completely different interpretation of a classic song.

Those beatles eh? Mad songwriters
Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss...

Jane's Addiction's covers of Rock 'n' Roll and Sympathy rank as the 2 best covers ever in my book

next would be Sinead's version of Nothing Compares 2 U which is much better than any version Prince ever did

Oooo, can't agree with your comment about Sinead. Prince's version is much better. Heck, I like the Family's version better.
