Madonna appreciation thread...

Just like Prince, MJ, and others, certain Madonna songs have gotten me through life situations. Thought I would start a thread about this. What are certain Madonna songs that have gotten you through either hard times or happy times in your life? At the moment, this song is really applicable after going through skin cancer surgery on my face and waiting...forever it seems...for the wound to heal up by secondary intention... eek mad razz music

Well, damn, forgot you can't actually post videos on this site anymore! Well, this is a video of the vinyl playing for Madonna's "Let It Will Be" from her Confessions On A Dance Floor LP, so I'll just post the link: https://youtu.be/cR7W_a2P4To

Actually, I love this whole album--Madonna's last great dance LP, IMO. Love how it sounds on vinyl.

It's a superb album that really flows well from one song to the next. With great songs like "Get Together" and "Jump",it's easily one of her finest latter-day albums.

Firstly, I hope you will recover quickly and fully. Wishing you the best!

Second, Promise To Try is getting me through a hard time just now. But there are many of her
songs that either help you with your grief or give you some respite from it and make you smile.

Really looking forward to this. I always am looking for music I can execise to, but most dance music just leaves me cold. I think the warmth of her voice in some of her songs and catchiness of her melodies help complement the sterileness that plagues much of dance music so that the listener can stay fully engaged. It is no wonder why she had a reamrkable 50 #1 dance hits.

"Lucky Star", "Think Of Me", "Holiday", "Physical Attraction" and "Borderline" were a major part of the soundtrack of my youth... still my alltime favorite Madonna songs by far...her 1st album is easily one of the greatest albums ever made by a female solo artist

Glad to see the tri-yearly Madonna thread has happened in summer.

I'm torn with ol' girl lately.

In the past, I've loved her so much. She was ahead of the game with having a gay Generation X audience. And really, it was one that just sorta happened. But we saw something and we showed up for her. And she showed out for us. She wasn't the first gay icon, and she isn't the last. But, she was significant.

Each album was as good as the last, and improved her sound, changed her aesthetic. She's an artist that had "eras" or "periods," whereas other artists's work just sorta blend together. You can tell my photos what era she was in at the time. Same with Janet, MJ, and of course Prince.

Confessions On A Dance Floor was the last great album she had, IMO. I know, controversial opinion, but it's true for me. Subsequent albums paled greatly in comparison. And it was a vast improvement over its predecesor, American Life. Hard Candy was a mediocre Timberlake/Neptunes production. MDNA was a slight improvement, but it was compressed, thin, weird. Rebel Heart was desperate. When she's using goal horns (used in soccer games) in her music, after twelve studio albums, she's lost inspiration. It was one of her bottom three albums for me, including American Life and Hard Candy.

Madame X was slightly redemptive for her. It was her BEYONCÉ or Unbreakeable, yet not quite as good.

Now for the bad part: I have no fucking idea what she's doing anymore. Her face has been altered so much (call it shaming or whatever, she looks horrible) that it's shocking. She's still wearing that stupid grill, her lips are bizarrely huge; the titties and pussy shots on Instagram are like - we get it. You're "edgy" or whatever. You're also 64 (in two days). You can be sexy and sensual, but goddamn so it in a way that is interesting, that provokes more than makes someone cringe with pity.

Now she's doing these shittastic remixes with Finally Enough Love. Big fucking deal. The remixes of "Ray Of Light," "Material Girl," and whatever the other one. I could not care less about fifty fucking remixes. It's going to be a shit show, and I'm just not here for it.

I guess I just don't know who she is anymore, or what she's trying to accomplish. I knew something had changed when I realized I had zero interest in buying the Rebel Heart Tour bluray. It's the first video from her I've not purchased. I've seen plenty of it online, and the songs are shitty, the "acts" are disjointed and make no sense to me.

I still appreciate her as an artist and the role she's had in my life. It's been years since I once considered her better than Janet Jackson. Now I realized, Janet was so consistent and rich with ideas and creativity; the quality was top notch. Madonna - it's waivered.

I'll always be interested in what she's doing next. I'm also reserving the right to just be done with it before I start up with it. biggrin

And best of luck on your recovery. 💜

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I remember hearing the singles “Holiday” and “Lucky Star” on R&B radio long before the pop stations began playing these tunes. Her debut album is excellent.

I like how she is more aloof and against the grain than ever, it might turn people off but I remember when she was writing children's books and pretending to be British, I prefer her "silly and pretentious and a freak."

.

I like the new Material Gworl remix way more than the Frozen remixes but I think its fun she did a dark/moody remix for Frozen and then a totally airy, light, fun remix for MG.

.

So excited for Finally Enough Love, I've been digging the singles reissues campaigns she has been doing over the past year or so and this is a nice boost to her back catalog with remixes that were not previously available on streaming.

it was so cool to see Madonna hanging out with Nile Rodgers the other night at a big disco skating party to celebrate Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones.

There's a lot going on in that song that's hard to hear, but if you get a good copy and dig into the audio of that, all the accoutrements are there.

It's odd that she's always changed that song in a live setting. She's never really sang it like it was on the record.

The Virgin Tour: album but mixes with "Billie Jean"
Who's That Girl Tour: Part of a medley, coupled with a 60's Motown song

Blond Ambition: Asian flair

The Girlie Show: German caberet

Confessions Tour: updated dance version

MDNA Tour: Fresh cabaret

Rebel Heart: whatever the hell she's doing on that tour

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Yeah she seems to be having alot of fun these days and doing exactly what she wants to do.No fucks given biggrin she has worked so hard for such a long time, she deserves the opportunity to be herself and do exactly what she wants.

I’m happy that there is a renewed focus on her legacy. This new compilation of her remixes….plans for remasters….and her biopic which is now being developed….I’m all for it.

Little late due to the org going to sleep for a few days but if you pre-order Finally Enough Love on CD or vinyl they are also shipping out "limited edition samplers" and if you pre-order the Digital, you get the new 2022 Hung Up remix on Friday with the digital order.

I woulda coulda shoulda ordered the 6LP vinyl but I just don't have that kind of storage/display space anymore for a vinyl collection. Bums me out a little. I did do a digital preorder for the Hung Up remix, and I ordered one of her t-shirts a few months ago.
