Very cool. Live concerts are a must for me. Next up, Iron Maiden next month, for the first and only time in my life.

You know it will, especially with my old lady Camo bucket hat and super thick sunscreen after having cancer removed on my face! LMAO This one will be a celebration! Had an all body skin cancer check for the first time and all clear as of now!

I saw Duran Duran and Chic last Thursday at Madison Square Garden. Freak out! Great show.

Just saw Duran Duran and Nile Rodgers & Chic on Sunday. I would have happily listened to Nile Rodgers and Chic the whole night. Kimberly Davis (hope I have the name right) who, I assume, was one of the orginal members of Chic sent chills down my spine when she wailed the SOUL SCALES up, down, and all around during performances of Chic's greatest hits, Sister Sledge, David Bowie, Madonna, etc. Esp. when she sang accapella with no accompaniment whatsoever! What a VOICE! Nile Rodgers showed out, playing the hell out of bass guitar, singing, dancing, and doing his own great rapping to "Rapper's Delight". Not only that, but he came out and was shaking hands and hugging people on the floor before and after his intorductory set. The man survived cancer twice and is thrilled to be out there performing again! Go see them! With or without Duran Duran!

The same for Duran Duran... I last saw them in a small venue in 2016 and though Simon Le Bon no longer looks as youthful and his voice is raspier on some notes (he does back to back concerts each night--no wonder!--but he can still wail on those high notes!) Duran Duran still gives a high energy performance and their "new" Future Past album from last year that I bought on LP has some great songs on it. What a wonderful way for them to celebrate 40 years as a band (minus one member--I hear he will be there!) right before their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November. They deserve it.

Roger Taylor and his bandmates are about to take their rightful place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, an overdue honor that dovetails nicely with a 2022 tour celebrating Duran Duran's 40th anniversary and a great new album titled "Future Past."

They seem to be having a lot of fun on these shows. "It does feel like that actually," Taylor says.

One reason is how well the "Future Past" songs have been blending with the hits on which their legacy has come to rest, from "Girls on Film" to "Hungry Like the Wolf" and "Rio."

"It's not like we're trying to shoehorn something into the set that's kind of very abstract and not really in keeping with the early material," he says.

.In a candid Zoom call from Las Vegas, Taylor talked with The Arizona Republic about keeping the spirit of "Rio" alive while looking to the future in advance of the Phoenix date on a tour where the energy of the fans feels a little like touring the States in the '80s.

My friend who's seen the tour twice says the dance floor-friendly nature of the new songs feels like a bit of link to the earlier records.

We have to thank Erol Alkan, the producer who did most of the record, for that. He wanted to incorporate the earlier kind of grooves into the more contemporary music we're producing. So there was a lot more live playing, a lot more work from John (Taylor) and I in the studio, where we kind of really dug in and created some organic grooves.

Of course, we worked with Giorgio Moroder, who's a real hero of ours. He's very much part of the DNA of those early records. In fact, the first song we ever played live as Duran Duran was "I Feel Love." So to have him come and work on this record has given it that kind of early Duran feel.

Now seems an especially great time for this type of record, coming out of the pandemic.

I think people are ready to party again. The energy coming from the audience is quite like nothing I’ve felt since the early days when we came to America in the early '80s.

.Was part of the appeal of titling the album "Future Past" the idea of moving on into the future while also embracing what you like about your past?

I think John and Simon (Le Bon) were describing the sound of the record to somebody. And they said, "Oh, wow, it's kinda like your future past, isn't it? You look into the future, but the record has elements of your past." And John just hooked onto that phrase.

The title has always been so important with Duran Duran. I mean, you think of "Rio." That just tells you almost what's gonna be on the record. "Seven and the Ragged Tiger" was a slightly more complex-sounding record. We were going through a few different avenues. So again, the title kind of tells you that.

Totally agree, Nile & Co. were spectacular! The crowd went nuts during the Bowie songs. I got a "Le Freak C'est Chic" tee, they were the coolest merch items IMHO the DD shirts were kinda blah.

My only gripe about the show is its the "Future Past" Tour and DD didn't do the song "Future Past"

Next concert (maybe more before) scheduled is Iron Maiden. This will be my first and last IM concert! Bucket list for me (my son loves Iron Maiden but hasn't seen them yet!) Never seen them before--hearing great reviews from recent concerts--so I'm looking forward to it at the end of the month.
