I think it's an awesome album. Cuff It, Energy/Break My Soul, Alien Superstar, THIQUE? Some of y'all sound pretty "thique" too, getting obsessed over someone fairly crediting people in an industry notorious for leaving black people to starve despite writing shit from Hound Dog to, btw, Milkshake (which Kelis also wrote but was swindled out of her royalties as a teen by HER FRIENDS The Neptunes).

I've still been listening to it every night while sewing. Some songs stand out more than others, but it's a mixtape. So you have to just take it as it comes. Some of the more danceable-4-on-the-floor type songs are the ones I gravitate toward.

Lotta 80s and 90s vibes on it, which works for what it is overall.

WIth the Kelis thing: When she was going off on Instagram about it, she mentioned how Chad "has no backbone. I'm surprise he can hold his neck up." SHADY!

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Hound Dog was written by Leiber & Stoller, who were 2 white guys. Big Mama Thornton didn't write it. Also Elvis remade the version by Freddie Bell & The Bellboys. Freddie was the singer who changed the lyrics from the original.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Fair play! Thanks for the correction. In it's place, I'll put Great Balls of Fire.

I actually love the mixtape vibe. I told my friends it sounds like a loveletter to many different people - including her gay fans. It's the first Beyonce album I've liked front to back since Sasha Fierce. Any fellow bassists out there who don't want to pick up their 5 string after hearing Thique needs to reconsider themselves.

(You wouldn't need a 5th string to play Thique, but imagine if that bassline had a 5th on it!! FAT.)

Otis Blackwell was black and wrote some songs that Elvis recorded. But Otis had to do that Colonel Parker 50% publishing deal that others like Dolly Parton & Jerry Reed would later refuse to do. Jerry got around it because Parker wasn't around during a recording session and Elvis really wanted to record Guitar Man during the session. Usually Parker presented the papers before Elvis recorded anything. But Dolly flat out turned Parker down. Elvis wanted to do I Will Always Love You. Here's a video about the Jerry Reed story. A lot of songwriters would take Parker's deal because Elvis sold a lot at the time and 50% would be more money than 100% of a less popular singer or band releasing the songs.

Yeah, she does keep changing it up since BEYONCÉ, which I think is her best record to date. The stuff before that - well, I've talked about it.

It is a love letter to Black, queer, Houston, etc etc between the lyrics and the production. There's 80s stuff in there, and a lot of 90s. I'm curious to see what II and III are going to be like.

I listened to this and BEYONCÉ back to back last night. The latter still feels stronger, but it was also new territory for her at that point. So there was a lot in it.

I have to say, I always loved the clever double play on the word and title Lemonade. "Before you get e-LEMONADE-d." aka eliminated. I'd rate that at #3 between these three records. And still #3 over all. 4 comes in at 4, and the rest... well, I can make one good album with the stuff from her first records.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I listened to it this morning and I only liked tracks 9 and 10.

The majority of songs on this album are awful. It makes her mediocre songs like Get Me Bodied and Single Ladies sound like Grammy winners. She's cursing on all the tracks like she lost her damn mind. lol Wow. She spent time during the pandemic crafting this nonsense. Sorry Bey please do more movies at least I enjoyed them.

lol nod

I spent my time working and taking care of my family. For leisure I worked out, played games, watch sprorts, fiddle with my musical instruments. The latter I'm quite sure a lot of us did. Sorry but not everyone subscribes to the Beyonce music cult. Carry the hell on

You're the one who took time out of your day that would've been better spent with your children to say something criticizing. At least the press is paid to be pointlessly opinionated.

And you took the time out of your day to criticize others critique of the album when your time

could have been better spent doing other things. See how that works. lol

Also I missed the memo that stated you were an org moderator to dictate how people critique

an album. It's a good thing you're not paid for your pointless opinion either. nuts

I finalyy have listened to the release a couple of times. So far, I like it fairly well but still prefer Lemonade and Beyonce albums. I imagine I will enjoy it more once I start exercising to it, as it is meant to groove with rather than listening to it in the car.

FYI: Remixed versions of Break My Soul improve on the original. Her is the link of the fun one with Madonna!

You can't embed videos. Just post the link.

I was just gonna post this. "The Queens Remix" sampling Madonna's "Vogue" with Beyonce doing a new rap on it naming newer people like Grace Jones, Janet, Gladys, Lauryn Hill, Missy, Aretha, etc is pretty cool.

She's naming Haus of LaBeiga and much more. It seems wholly appropriate considering the "Vogue" sample and that history, plus the 80s and 90s vibe on the album in general. I love that.

Ronald Isley announced on the Isley Brothers FB page he has a duet with Beyoncé
coming Friday a remake of their classic Make Me Say It Again Girl. From the snippet I heard it sounds like it's gonna be solid.

In her remix of Break My Soul with Madonna, she does a shout out to several black female singers (and Madonna) that include most of the big names in the past few decades It is interesting that she didn't include Mary J Blige, queen of hip hop. It was certainly her perogative to do so, but the exclusion was salient given how impressive and influential that MJB has been, even if you don't like her voice. She still is played on Urban radio to this day, with Good Morning Gorgeous (great song) hitting #1 on Urban AC and Top 20 on mainstream Urban stations a few months ago, and the followup Here With Me still rising in the top 10 of the Urban AC charts. Like recent Beyonce albums, she never became particularly pop oriented, and it was these types of artists that were most prevalent in the shout out (Grace Jance, Santigold, Jill Scott, etc).
