I've still been listening to it every night while sewing. Some songs stand out more than others, but it's a mixtape. So you have to just take it as it comes. Some of the more danceable-4-on-the-floor type songs are the ones I gravitate toward.

Lotta 80s and 90s vibes on it, which works for what it is overall.

WIth the Kelis thing: When she was going off on Instagram about it, she mentioned how Chad "has no backbone. I'm surprise he can hold his neck up." SHADY!

Hound Dog was written by Leiber & Stoller, who were 2 white guys. Big Mama Thornton didn't write it. Also Elvis remade the version by Freddie Bell & The Bellboys. Freddie was the singer who changed the lyrics from the original.

Otis Blackwell was black and wrote some songs that Elvis recorded. But Otis had to do that Colonel Parker 50% publishing deal that others like Dolly Parton & Jerry Reed would later refuse to do. Jerry got around it because Parker wasn't around during a recording session and Elvis really wanted to record Guitar Man during the session. Usually Parker presented the papers before Elvis recorded anything. But Dolly flat out turned Parker down. Elvis wanted to do I Will Always Love You. Here's a video about the Jerry Reed story. A lot of songwriters would take Parker's deal because Elvis sold a lot at the time and 50% would be more money than 100% of a less popular singer or band releasing the songs.

Yeah, she does keep changing it up since BEYONCÉ, which I think is her best record to date. The stuff before that - well, I've talked about it.

It is a love letter to Black, queer, Houston, etc etc between the lyrics and the production. There's 80s stuff in there, and a lot of 90s. I'm curious to see what II and III are going to be like.

I listened to this and BEYONCÉ back to back last night. The latter still feels stronger, but it was also new territory for her at that point. So there was a lot in it.

I have to say, I always loved the clever double play on the word and title Lemonade. "Before you get e-LEMONADE-d." aka eliminated. I'd rate that at #3 between these three records. And still #3 over all. 4 comes in at 4, and the rest... well, I can make one good album with the stuff from her first records.

I finalyy have listened to the release a couple of times. So far, I like it fairly well but still prefer Lemonade and Beyonce albums. I imagine I will enjoy it more once I start exercising to it, as it is meant to groove with rather than listening to it in the car.

I was just gonna post this. "The Queens Remix" sampling Madonna's "Vogue" with Beyonce doing a new rap on it naming newer people like Grace Jones, Janet, Gladys, Lauryn Hill, Missy, Aretha, etc is pretty cool.

She's naming Haus of LaBeiga and much more. It seems wholly appropriate considering the "Vogue" sample and that history, plus the 80s and 90s vibe on the album in general. I love that.

In her remix of Break My Soul with Madonna, she does a shout out to several black female singers (and Madonna) that include most of the big names in the past few decades It is interesting that she didn't include Mary J Blige, queen of hip hop. It was certainly her perogative to do so, but the exclusion was salient given how impressive and influential that MJB has been, even if you don't like her voice. She still is played on Urban radio to this day, with Good Morning Gorgeous (great song) hitting #1 on Urban AC and Top 20 on mainstream Urban stations a few months ago, and the followup Here With Me still rising in the top 10 of the Urban AC charts. Like recent Beyonce albums, she never became particularly pop oriented, and it was these types of artists that were most prevalent in the shout out (Grace Jance, Santigold, Jill Scott, etc).
