Rick Astley (2022) You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

"Together Forever" is a better song than "Never Gonna Give You Up." Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I never got the one hit wonder term, its one I hate because its really a term that is always used in America and mostly wrong. Rick had two number one and five top tens, but its america where radio tends to get stuck on one song even if you have more. Rick Springfield is called a one hit wonder and he had 18 top 40 hits and four platunum and gold albums in a row, he was peaked "commercially" in a time that had the beginning of Madonna and Prince and MJ. Corey Hart gets lumped into that shit term but even the ONE HIT is not his biggest hit, thats why I put no weight on that, its not like Rick had one single and never recorded again and sold nowhere.

Yeah Kylie is a huge example good point, Simple Minds also another, people forget that they had a few more top 10 hits right after Dont You, and a few top 40 singles and to this day are still touring and releasing new music that charts almost everywhere else. a-ha is a prime example too, though always known for take on me and granted it was number one in 24 countries, but they didnt stop they had 17 straight UK top 40 hits and in MANY countries "sun always shines on TV" and "The Living Daylights" are bigger than Take on Me. And they also releases new music to this day including more this year and just played sold out gigs in NYC 6,000 seats

Well since the keyboard hook to "Take on Me" is being plundered to death, maybe artists will move on the "Sun...".

I love Rick's music. He doesn't take himself too seriously, but he also seems to love what he does, he still sounds great live, and he has embraced his SAW-era hits.
But it's true, he is not a one-hit wonder. Never Gonna Give You Up, Together Forever, She Wants to Dance With Me and A Cry for Help were all bit hits, among others. He also did a cover of Nat King Cole's When I Fall in Love.
I don't like the term "one-hit wonder". It seems a bit dismissive, and many artists have different chart hits in different territories.
Kylie Minogue actually had three Top 40 songs from her debut album, I Should Be So Lucky, The Loco-motion and It's No Secret. Geffen issued It's Not Secret as a single in America, and it was hardly released anywhere else in the world but it still managed to scrape the bottom of the top 40.
I can also vouch that, as a Canadian, Corey Hart still had a few hits into the late '80s. He did a cover of Elvis' I Can't Help Falling in Love in 1986 which was a big hit here in Canada, a few years before the UB40 cover.

As keyboard play Magne Furuholmen said (he wrote the riff when he was about 13) that song has worked its balls off for us. a-ha is smart with their money and fame, their success has been in pockets all over, america early, the UK for longer and then on and off, Germany, Norway of course, but South America these guys are almost royality. So I get the dismissive american term of ONE HIT WONDER on them since the song is so big in america more than anything most have ever heard of them, BUT reality is you dont last 40 years playing to 80,000 people in south america and 20,000 in the UK and all other markets and even selling out the few american dates if you just had ONE song and never had something else to work off of, I mean to lump them in with others that dropped off the face of the earth is insasnity.

The only one I've heard is on a song by Pitbull called Feel This Moment. I don't remember any others You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. To my knowledge there just have been a few covers, usually evoking the slow version of it, reality is everyone thinks its this poppy go lucky song, its not. Lyrically the band has always been dark its just when you have one of the best smoothest effortless voices fronting the band it tends to not send dark
