Red Hot Chili Peppers Announce Second Album of 2022, ‘Return of the Dream Canteen’

“2 double albums released back to back. The second of which is easily as meaningful as [Unlimited Love], band says of surprise new album, out in October

Red Hot Chili Peppers have announced that their second LP of 2022, Return of the Dream Canteen, will arrive this October.

.

The band revealed that there was already a surprise follow-up to Unlimited Love Saturday night during their show at Denver’s Empower Field, the first show of the North American leg of their tour.

“Even though we put an album out four months ago, we have a brand new double album stacked to the brim,” Flea said from the stage. “That’s two double fucking albums.” (Unlimited Love, released in April, is also a double LP.)

.

Flea added that the album’s first single was called “Tippa My Tongue,” and that Return of the Dream Canteen would arrive Oct. 14.

Soon after, the Chili Peppers’ social media accounts switched over to reflect the announcement, with the Rick Rubin-produced double LP now available to preorder.

.

“We went in search of ourselves as the band that we have somehow always been. Just for the fun of it we jammed and learned some old songs. Before long we started the mysterious process of building new songs,” RHCP said of the new album in a statement.

Looking forward to this new double album. I really enjoyed Unlimited Love and am curious to hear what they got up their sleeve. So happy John is back with the band. Josh was a good replacement and I loved his collaborations with him on his solo albums but John is the best in the band for me.

John does make a difference, altho like you said Josh was good too.
But vocally John is stronger and more melodic

I actually wouldn't have minded Josh staying with the band with John. I like both John's and Josh's vocals. I guess they weren't open to having more than four members in the band.

I have noticed too except for Hillel (their first guitarist RIP), John doesn't seem to like playing the songs that were done by his replacements. I always assumed he and Josh were friends because of his work on John's solo albums but I have to wonder if he was a little upset that he took his place in the Chili Peppers after he left.

Damn shame I couldn't go to the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert yesterday... But had to work and it's in a stadium 50 miles away and I don't do stadiums anymore. But, I really enjoyed Unlimited Love and I'm looking forward to their new album in the fall. They seem re-energized which is great this late in their career. Listening to Stadium Arcadium now... cool headbang music
