Always loved them from day one, and it was such a let down way back then when the album kept getting bumped, and not released and then shelved, I can remember calling the record store then each time the date came up and they said "no didnt get it", this obviously was LONG before social media and websites and the internet you had to pick up the phone and call and ask or go and check. But I remember as a young kid being bummed out because I had saved allowance money for it and it didnt make sense then LOL but years later learning the politics and all the stuff going on. It is funny how people get on PRINCE's estate with the whole "THE TIME" issue, well Rick James estate did the same thing to the Mary Jane Girls and denying how the name was used or used for live shows. The biggest shame is MOTOWN is such a shit show that their albums and the shelved one will ever see a proper re issue.

It would be nice if Sweet Conversations could finally get an official release but it seems as if Motown just doesn’t care anymore shrug

hardwork

Today I went grocery shopping - one block from my house I had to turn onto Pico and there was this guy riding a motorcycle playing "Standing on the Top" really, really REALLY loudly who I turned just in front of. He appeared to be a Mexican guy in his late 50s. I had to stop on red and he was right behind me for the duration of the light. Rick (or maybe it was the Temps?) was talking about when you're on the top there's no place you can really go but down down down and stuff like that. LOL Usually I'm the one forcing everyone to involuntarily enjoy a little Rick at loud volumes at red lights.

My favorite albums of Slick Rick's is "Garden Of Love"(whom Rick made while entering Rehab to detox & included a song "Summer Love" with Teena Marie(whom I met & is my favorite female singer) doing background love sounds) & "Fire It Up" with the rock-funk jam "LoveGun" That's still in my Chocolate MUZIQ Box.

I remember winning tickets on the radio to the Street Songs tour. A tour a child like me had no business attending. But I had the time of my life! Then years later Teena brought Rick on her tour with her. It was a sad moment seeing where he was and then ended up. Weeks later he was gone.

I attended his viewing @ Forestlawn cemetary to show my respect.

Yeah that sadly is the case with MOTOWN which is crazy just for the history of the label itself. Even if it is just manufacturing catalog reissues, so what, I mean who wouldnt want some of the MOTOWN stuff reissued, remastered, repackaged. I was sorry that years back I let the Lionel Richie deluxe cds get b, because good luck finding them now, or if you do its some "outrageous" (to qote Lionel) price even used. And the problem with the Mary Jane Girls is similar to Prince Proteges, its not like another label can jump in and say we will do the remastering and all and issue it, estates, are blocking that in both cases.

Love that Lionel Ritchie "Can't Slow Down" Deluxe edition. It is so interesting to hear how the songs started out as demos and morphed into the final album versions.

Not sure what happened to the Mary Jane Girls "Sweet Conversations". Motown announced a few years ago they were issuing it digitally at the same time they reissued all of Rick's albums digitally but for whatever reason they decided to scrap the plan for MJG again. They released it on youtube but that was it. sad

As far as Rick, I'm still wondering why Universal keeps passing up the chance to finally put "Glow" on CD for the Japan market. They are reissuing "Garden Of Love" in a couple of weeks but that was already issued on CD although it's been OOP for a bit. But still no sign of "Glow"? hmmm

It does seem pretty ridiculous that his own albums mostly just have digital deluxe editions from 2014. The Stone City Band and the Mary Jane Girls' albums should all get the deluxe treatment beyond digital which seems pretty difficult to find in the first place. Their third album should get official release as well.

exactly very similar to prince protégés and such. But in this case of Rick it's his estate and also a terrible label situation. At least for Prince the labels will do it, it's just the estate. Motown could care less at this point.
