how do we feel about their 1983 album Powerlight? hmmm Some people say that this album was disappointing, but I think it has its moments. The two singles ("Fall In Love With Me" and "Side By Side") are excellent...as good as anything on Raise, imo.

I enjoyed the record and the single "Fall in Love With Me" was very good and still bumps to this day. It's a lower tier EWF album BUT it's still EWF so it had it's moments.

You know what Soul that pisses me off. This man didn't get the proper tribute he deserves for his

contribution to music from the 2 biggest black networks TVOne and BET. Let a famous rapper die that the mass rap fans love and BET will do a month long tribute. mad

There is a clip on Youtube where David Foster gave Maurice his flowers in his last public appearance

at an awards show. At that point Maurice was already in a wheelchair.

EWF as we speak now are currently on tour with what they call their alumni legacy tour which I suppose will feature all the guys from the classic lineup. Sadly we just loss saxophonist Andrew Woolfolk earlier this month. I was just listening to The Promise album last night from 2003.

I loved it because it sounded like EWF. Maurice was my favorite band leader of all time. He was

the best to ever do it as a band leader, musician, and producer.

I totally agree....Maurice deserves much more respect and recognition for his amazing talent and accomplishments. The current lineup are also working on a new album produced by Babyface confused I'm not sure if that's a good fit? They already released a single from it (a remake of "Can't Hide Love") and I wasn't too impressed.

Earth, Wind & Fire - ... - YouTube

When I first heard it I wasn't too impressed either but it grew on me. It sounds
more like Lucky Daye ft EWF. As for Face producing them it could be very good or mediocre depending on which way the wind blows. Babyface produced songs can get sappy which as why I liked his Face2Face album. It wasn't predictable like previous predictable albums like The Day. Face2Face Babyface stepped out his comfort zone and even did a fresh song with the Neptunes There She Goes.
I hope the pairing works because new EWF music without Maurice hasn't faired too well.

the strange thing is…I actually like the ‘Electric Universe’ album eek biggrin I think that if this album had been recorded by somebody else,it would have been a really huge album.I think that EW&F’s fans weren’t gonna accept this type of sound from them. It’s a very synth-heavy,cold,electronic sound. It was an experiment that ultimately failed but I enjoy the album.I like the songs “Magnetic”,”Touch”,and “We’re Living In Our Own Time”.I also like “Could It Be Right”,which would have been a huge adult contemporary hit if it had been a single.

I thought the Powerlight album was solid. It was a tier below the Raise album but I liked Fall In Love With Me, Side By Side, and the underrated The Speed Of Love, and Straight From The Heart. The latter is one of Phillip's best ballads. I like when it ends it's followed by a quick 1 minute Kalimba interlude from Maurice. Electric Universe just didn't have it. Thank god for the snazzy first single Magnetic. I did like Moonwalk and Sweet Sassy Lady. Touch and Electric Nation was just okay. I didn't like either ballad off Electric Nation.

Also albums by The Emotions:

FLOWERS
REJOICE
SUNBEAM
COME INTO OUR WORLD

and Deniece Williams:

THIS IS NIECY
SONGBIRD

Are all basically Earth Wind & Fire albums with female vocals, since Maurice White, Al McKay, Verdine White, Charles Stepney, and Larry Dunn wrote, produced and played on most of those joints.

I never liked the studio version on the Thats The Way Of The World lp either...the live version on the Gratitude lp is much better...but i always thought that song was overrated and overplayed, the same way i feel about the song Purple Rain

While both may be overplayed - no argument there - "Reasons" is just a horrible song in general. "Purple Rain" isn't. "Reasons," for me, is that fucking falsetto just wandering around up there, hitting whatever note happens to blow by in the melody. I literally wince and internally cringe when I hear it.

For me, it's definitely a low point, and I don't know how it was ever on compilations and such. It wasn't even a single so far as I can tell.

But it's small potatoes compared to the rest of their catalog. Even Prince had "Judghead."

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

“Reasons” is a slow jam classic. It was never released as a single but it is definitely a fan favorite.Funny thing about the song…Philip said that people always come up to him, praising this song and telling him that they used it as their “wedding song”.But if you take a closer look at the lyrics, the song is actually about a one-night stand! lol

Yeah, the lyrics aren't really wedding friendly.

They were not consistant but great at times.

That's complete bullshit, From Head to the Sky (1973) to I AM (1979) they gave us seven consecutive masterpieces! Only Stevie Wonders body of work during that time period is of similar quality.
