"The Cars" a classic!? I recently revisited the album "The Cars" and remembered how much I loved it when it was released. Moreover, it really has stood the test of time. It seems to be a perfect blend of components that was better than the sum of the parts. Released in 1978, it seemed to blend some parts of the emerging New Wave (quirky electronics, offbeat and dissonant voice of lead singer Ric Ocazek) with some elements of 70s rock (melodic group background chorus and some guitar rock music) and insanely catchy in the way of pop music. It was different enough that it never caught on in Mainstream pop radio but album and rock radio played some of the songs. It really mostly built on word of mouth and stayed in the charts seemingly forever on the way to multiplatinum success. I remember that i liked it okay the first couple of times but then by the third time I was completely hooked and was compelled to sing along loudly. True to it's namesake, it was best to play it while driving, I heard the album in entirety for the first time in years a couple of ago, and now I am hooked again. And yes, I am singing along loudly while I cruise down the street with the volume on loud.
Anyone else here like it? | |
