This site is a ghost town nowadays. razz I think most of the people who were interested in award shows either left years ago or were banned like MJcarousel who would always talk about Beyoncé, Kanye West, & Jay-Z being part of some kind of conspiracy or bought their awards. lol After that recent hack, more people are gone probably because they don't have access to their old email.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Too bad it was actually a good show this year.

And Taylor didn't get that 4th AOTY grammy!

Thank you John Baptist!

It is so easy to slam all award shows, but I actually thought there were some good performance on the show this year, including Silk Sonic, John Baptist, Billie, H.E.R. and Brandi Carlisle. I even thought Olivia Rodriguez was better than expected as the new pop sensation.

There's a place to talk about all kinds of music. There's a place for soulful R&B as well as money making Pop. Perhaps it might not be what you would want to talk about but it is for someone who loves it.

Don't judge an entire world of music based off of the small 20% that is given to us via mainstream pipelines and filtered platforms

Still waiting for H.E.R. to record something Grammy worthy, but it was nice to see Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis on either side of her while she brought "Making Love In The Rain" back to the mainstream. (She performed "Damage".)

I was glad Taylor Swift didn't grab another Grammy, but I felt like the other nominees would have made more sense than Jon Batiste— even his reaction was like WTF confused

I dont get too wrapped up in the winners much and really the nominees, mainly because most of what is nominated I dont own/stream for the most part. I did go back and watch the performances (as much as I could get through of each) and for the most part they were good, some better than others no one was lousy, a few werent live at all, BTS was not live but I am sure the teen fan base they have could care less. It is always interesting how the grammies seem to latch on to a "new artist" or "one artist" they are famous for this the last two decades or so. This year obviously it is Olivia Rodrigo who is good it will be interesting to see where this goes, because of the way these shows and awards are they tend to run out a new pop star year after year that they then forget. I mean she is just 19 and winning these awards already, similar to what they did with Camila Cabello who is now 25 and viewed as "old and on a comeback" which is hilarious if you consider who output for artists has changed. What went under the radar was the sweep of the Rock categories by the Foo FIghters and them becoming the most awarded rock band just as they lose their drummer and cancel all future touring dates and cancellied their appearance which I am so glad they did, I think it will be awhile before they are seen. I did think the Taylor Hawkins tribute was awful, very tossed together, as someone said "a fan on social media could do better". But seeing it had just happened the grammys had no time to get it together, especially since the Grammys have not one element of ROCK in their shows anymore, but as we know everyone in all genres knew Taylor well and respected him, hopefully next year something is done properly. Some of the other artists, though strong had less than strong material performed, Carrie Underwood was one, not a great new song, and Brandi Carlisle is great but she has much better stuff.

Hawkins was lucky to get what he did. He was a drummer for chrissakes. He was only so prominent because his death was so recent.

Like, imagine if Pearl Jam's drummer had died. Springsteen's (who had some success independent of Bruce). U2's. Bon Jovi's. They were not household names.

I thought BTS sang. The worst offender was Lil Nas, whose vocals were often heard when he wasn't singing or when his mic was nowhere near his mouth. His performance was a triumph of his wardrobe department.

True to an extent but again the band is the most awarded american band. Pearl Jam if you take away the first two records, they have not been in the mainstream eye at all, as great as I think they are, people dont even realize how many records that band has had, they are not a commercial rock band like the Foo Fighters have been in an era of the grammys that treats rock music like an after thought, though ROCK as a genre is one of the stronger physical selling genres. Hawkins was way more in the spotlight because he went and did most if not all the press with Grohl and had it not been for Grohl (the token rock guy) that genre would have no representation at any events. Also Hawkins was more respected but music artists in general more than I ever thought, people in other genres that I never thought would have connection to him would. Also U2 and Bon Jovi are not in the eye of the pubic like they were, the Foo Fighters are honestly the only "safe" rock act that everyone invites to their ceromonies, they are the token rock band. So if god forbid Larry Mullen or Tico Torres past, they are bands who may be BIG but the hey day of them is long since gone, Larry mullen rarely speaks, Tico is a hired hand in an Icons band. As for Lil Nas X, I forwarded through that nonsense, when your gimmicks are overshadowing your music, then you have nothing to say to me, BTS, its too pop bubble gum painting by numbers for me to really care. The other artists like I said were OK to pretty good.

So many acts are singing with vocal backing tracks that its hardly shocking anymore when they drop the mic. So on the 2022 curve L'il Nas gets a pass.

BTS can barely speak english. Do we really want them struggling with live vocals?

And am I the only one who thinks Larry Mullin probably would get a beefed up tribute? Depending on the circumstances I think it would be big news to a lot of people.

Well for a TV show like this I get it with the backing tracks, but as far as I know BTS plays shows I would hope they are singing but then again with the young fan base they arent there to see live singing they probably dont know what Live and pre recorded is. For shows like this the reason artists tend to use tracks is that their recordings are so auto tuned (and many actually can sing they just dont) they are not confident or want to deviate from recordings. for the not playing LIVE this is going on a lot and its not just the new acts you are seeing older bands like KISS totally not sing live on tour. As for Mullin it would be odd because I u2 and the Foo FIghters are very similar in some respect you have u2 who have won the most grammys as a band at 22 and then THe Foo Fighters who have won 15 which are the most for an american band. But like I had mentioned the foo fighters are always in the light because of Grohl as he is the token "safe" rock guy, but whenever the foos are promoting Hawkins was with him Grohl for everything, as someone said the Foos are an odd band where the better drummer sings and the better singer drums. It will be interesting to see what they do next as far as a public appearance, I think it will be sometime before they are seen

Of course I am an old fart as far as age goes, but I try to remain open minded towards modern music. I don't like older folks who piss on everything that came after 'their time'. There is still plenty of good music being made today.
