From my personal experience - once you started the convenience of streaming, the varity of choice and the excellent sound (up to high res), there is hardly a way back. And this coming from a guy who has spent a considerable amount of his income on vinyl and CDs when he was younger... biggrin

Unfortunately, streaming is one of the many conveniences catering to (or causing?) a reduced attention span. Anyone seen a 16 year old listening intensely to 20 minutes 5 song seague by the same artist while admiring cover work and lyrics? Or even a 70 minute plus session?

I was at a gathering and there were younger people there and they kept switching the songs it felt like every ten seconds, like they forgot other people were in the room.

On Youtube, there's folks who pay music reaction channels for song requests. Some have paid $100 or more. Most pay from $1 to $10. Some of the reaction channels even sell merchandise of themselves like T-shirts.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

The conceit with most of these channels is that the listener has never heard the songs before.

My cynical side has a hard time believing this, but that's not surprising.

If I post the Top 10 for this week, would a lot of the people on this site have heard the songs? I have younger cousins and their parents did not play older music, they just mostly listen to what's current. If they know oldies, it's because the songs were in a video game or some animated movie, like Boogie Wonderland. My mom would not know any songs by AC/DC or Pet Shop Boys. She's heard of The Beatles and was around when they were an active group, but she couldn't identify them if she heard them. She'd know Luther Vandross or Wilson Pickett. Most of my relatives primarily listened to black artists, and maybe white artists that made R&B & jazz. My mom thinks Johnny Mathis & Sammy Davis Jr. is white music. She doesn't like the style of music they make, it's not soul to her. I remember some of the kids at school would say why am I listening to that "white boy music". lol Up until the 11th grade, when I switched schools, all of the schools before that were 95% black students.

I am always buying CDs. No new releases. Just reissues.

I got the Phyllis set just to have it despite the lack of bonus tracks from her Philly years. They recently released the extended mixes to the singles from "Living All Alone" on a Philadelphia Remixes Vol 3 digital compilation. They could have easily included those tracks in the box set. I understand the set has sold very well so its nice to know there is still interest for her out there.

It's a very nice set isn't it? The first album is so good...and the sound quality is really impressive! I'm having a great time exploring her catalog.

CD's will still get the reissue treatment as they are peanuts to make. That suits me fine. New vinyl is a real case of day light robbery, just like CD's were and still are in a way LOL....
