RIP Meatloaf

Grammy Award winning singer Meat Loaf, real name Michael Lee Aday, has died with his wife by his side.

His Bat Out of Hell trilogy is one of the bestselling albums ever. He was also known for playing Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

.

A cause of death has not yet been released.

Gahhh, you beat me to it. I just saw Variety tweet about it.

Man, the guy was so great on vocals, but really had a mental issue with his performances. He'd beat himself up for hours, go into ...a funk... thinking he didn't deliver. When in fact, the crowd went nuts and never saw or cared about any mistake he may have made.

I hope he worked through that later in life.

An official statement from t...ebook page reads:

Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight with his wife Deborah by his side. Daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends have been with him throughout the last 24 hours.

His amazing career spanned 6 decades that saw him sell over 100 Million albums worldwide and star in over 65 movies, including “Fight Club”, “Focus”, “Rocky Horror Picture Show” and “Wayne’s World.”
“Bat Out of Hell” remains one of the top 10 selling albums of all time.

We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man.
We thank you for your understanding of our need for privacy at this time.

From his heart to your souls…don’t ever stop rocking!

Remember, this is less than a year since Jim Steinman died.

I bought Bat out of Hell when it was released in Australia. Almost immediately after this our co-ed Venturer unit (Part of Scouts) had a dance endurance competition. Bat out of Hell was the most played album during the competition.

A one of a kind performer, and actor and got so into his works. A great combo with Jim Steinman of course, one of the most iconic albums of ALL TIME I think people forget how HUGE that album was and how everyone had it or heard it or knew the words to it. That was the appeal and how music could take over, those days are sadly gone, you are never seeing another time where albums and songs take over everything.

Sad news sad I have so many memories of that Bat Out of Hell album. It's a true classic. Michael had a fantastic voice and wasn't a bad actor either. RIP.

I was actually just listening to Meat Loaf last week. There's a 90s song from him called "Rock And Roll Dreams Come Through" that I've always loved. Like most of his songs, it's a bit epic (and a bit cheesy) but I love it.

The older Meat Loaf stuff always reminds me of my sister. She had the first Bat Out Of Hell album.

Hot patooties, bless his soul, he really loved that rock n roll.

Bat out of hell is one of the best albums ever. And his voice, when he was on, too. Glad I got to see him in concert almost 10 years ago.

RIP Meatloaf,

What a character. lol When I read he's open for the WHO before he appeared on the scene, it explains the influences of "Rocky Horror Show" and Rock Opera, in Meatloaf music/albums. A regular on the NBC Letterman show and was always was a riot. My condolences to Meatloaf's family and friends.

Rosie O'Donnell has been steadily posting clips from her show. Today she posted interviews from both Meat Loaf and Louie Anderson. I put Louie's link in his thread.

Big fan of his when younger. Stopped at "Bat out of hell 2". Both that and "Bat out of hell" are remarkable for lots of reasons, but "2" was a comeback of near Tina Turner proportions and the first was shopped around for ages from what I read.

Props go to third muskateer Todd Rundgren for producing "Bat out of hell". What a trio he, Steinmen and Meat were. I can only imagine the execs hearing how "uncurrent" it was and so passed on it. Now its one of the best selling albums ever and hasn't dated a jot.

I still have yet to purchase all his 80's stuff. The Frank Farian one is seen as his lowest point, but I like it tons. Its just a good pop record that screams mid 80's with the occasional flash of Meat mellodrama. For completists or mid 80's pop geeks like myself LOL

Google it. I think it wasn't too long ago. The guy had frequent breakdowns after a performance. Not because of weight or whatever, but because he had such a mental block about performing and thinking he'd failed and did a terrible job, that he'd send himself into a tizzy and overstress about it. While I'm sure he had physical health issues (who doesn't), but a lot of it was him beating himself up. Plus - he's older and pushed too hard perhaps.

Oh I misread it. I thought Luv4u ended up in the hospital.

Ergo.... everything I said. Must've been miserable for him. (PS we're due for a new Masked Singer thread soon, but not yet.)
