Hilarious new article from Billboard Magazine about "too many songwriters"

The grammies in the past have changed many rules included the new "inclusive" categoires for their biggest awards, having 10 nominees in each category. BUT in years past they changed the rule that everyone who is part of a song or an album gets a trophy so this year, two top noms for album of the year this year Kanye West has 77 songwriters 41 producers 29 featured artists and 19 engineers. Justin Beiber had 73 producers 32 producers 19 engineers and 14 featured artists, this is hilarious that if either wins or a few of the other noms win the grammies would have to hand out over a hundred trophies for one award. I jokingly said this recently about Beibers "peaches" taking 13 writers? really it took 13 people to write a song that has more repetition than song.

We've covered this before. It's been pointed out (by me and others) using Beyonce as an example: A mediocre ass song like "Who Run The World (Girls)" has a slew of cowriters, mostly because of sampling.

Yet a five-section epic song like "Bohemian Rhapsody" has ONE writer.

These people aren't musicians. They're just very clever with Garageband.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

MickeyDolenz, always the contrarian.

Mickey, u love finding examples against any subject LOL

It's factors like sampling but I imagine, like in Mickey's example, its an excuse to get everyone in on the publishing

That's what I was thinking. Everyone in the band just got equal publishing. A few bands do that. Journey, I think. Metallica?

Queen did that later on. I remember reading that Roger Taylor got just as much of the sale off for the B side to "Bohemian Rhapsody" than Freddie, so that wasn't always the case.

I noticed Five Star, of all things, always did exclusive B-sides for those sorta reasons. They were always instrumentals too. I love them and they are finally on CD now, but it was cheeksy asf haha
