I finally found one of the original vinyl pressings and bought it. I could tell by the horns in the choruses on "Bad." On later pressing, you hear the horns come in on the chorus just before it fades out.

• "Dirty Diana" is replaced with the single edit of the song.
• "Smooth Criminal" went through two changes on the album. It was remixed to make the kick drum heavier and the bass synth fatter. The quick-sequenced synclavier behind the bass has been rendered mono as well. The first version of this mix left the breathing intact, but was later removed after some time.
• "Leave Me Alone" was not included on the original vinyl nor cassette releases but was included on the CD release and now is included in all releases.

I think if you were to reference Discogs.com with the early vinyl release, you'd get the correct times on the tracks, and know which one you have.

I think it's a huge detriment to the album to have it sound like that.

I gotta wonder if some of the releases aren't a blend of original versions and amended single versions as they were created and released.

Speed Demon is my favorite and the only song I like on the album.

There were a blend over time. But if you check the time signatures, you'll kinda know where you're at with it.

A great song from an ok album. This the album that he started to lose me.

My first favourite song, but except Just good friends, all of them are great. My favourites now, Leave me Alone, Dirty Diana, Another part of me, Speed Demon, Man in the mirror. But of course, it seems wrong to not mention Smooth Criminal and They way you make me feel and Bad. Also the gorgeous ballads Liberian girl and I just can't stop loving you. Really, it's totally unfair to single a song out.

Somebody uploaded Just Good Friends A Capella and it is amazing. Mike really got his voice from Stevie and their mannerisims and growls are very close in vocal ability.

Story goes a homeless man snuck into the studio and was standing up against a wall looking at them perform this song in awe. Someone finally seen him and escorted him out.

"Smooth Criminal" I loved before I saw the video. Once I saw that I was done. It's my favorite MJ video of all time to this very day.

The album had 10 songs on it. You disliked 5. That's "I liked about half of the album, at most."

The problem still, for me, is the sped up nature of some of the tracks. I do think "Moonwalker" would've been better than "Another Part of Me." And let's face it, despite the string of #1s from the album, it wouldn't have been the same without "Man in the Mirror." At. All.

So much energy in that clip.

There are a lot of MJ acapella videos on YouTube. Each one shows just how good his voice was, and to the great extent he was a versatile singer.

It seems MJ sorta steered away from religion like that. Where Prince delved right into it throughout his career. Michael sang about love, Prince sang about fucking...and love. We only knew they were raised Jehovah's Witness, and didn't celebrate holidays, etc. And then the disclaimer at the beginning of "Thriller"'s video.

I'd agree that "Keep The Faith" and "Man in the Mirror" were the only real gospel-leaning aesthetics he approached. MJ seemed more socially and politically motivated in his music than religious or spiritual.

I also believe that was a bit of the disconnected between MJ and Prince as friends. Their approaches to live were just so vastly different. Prince searched for a higher closeness to God, while MJ was constantly taking steps away from being a JW, and finding his own voice. The church didn't satiate his love of life, while Prince felt more God would bring him a bigger inner peace.

It's not that MJ stepped away from God, he stepped away from the organization and conservatism of it. Prince - once being a freedom fighter - leaned into it ore more extreme belief system. It's no short bit of irony that MJ left being a JW, and Prince seemed to suck the big JW dick right in the town square.
