Great find! News to me too smile I assumed acoustic guitar was his main instrument.

This clip took me back to him recounting his years with The Deeles in an interview in Questlove’s podcast, amazing interview for those who haven’t heard it yet.

Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds got his professsional start in the self-contained group Manchild which was formed in Indianapolis. He joined that group as a guitarist and he was influenced by several players including EWF's guitarist Johnny Graham, Jeff Beck and Freddie Stone (of Sly and The Family Stone). In that group he used to do guitar battles with Reggie Griffin.

It can be heard on their second album FEEL THE PHUFF on the song "Walk With Me". He is quite the guitarist, that is his main instrument.

That's kinda sad that u only like The Deele
Babyface has so much to offer.
Im a fan by the way.
.
Street Beat.
Was basically a Midnight Star album..
I like to call it"No parking on the dance floor part II".lol..
And i mean that in a good way..They hooked that sound up.
Faces vocals are only on "Crazy bout cha"
Singing the hook..

They finally had him sing lead on"Sweet November"off
Material Thangz album..and co-lead on You're all i ever known
Love Face's ad-libs and hook on I'll send you roses

The production sound that I know and love...of him and LA Reid.
Is all over the Deele's Eyes of a stranger"album...

It was building with his solo album "Lovers"
Cat Miller's album,Shalamar's"Circumstantial evidence"album
The Whispers"In the mood and Rock steady..
Songs for Lakeside and Dynasty at Solar..

Tender lover is his best solo album..

LaFace's best produced track???
Toss up ..Rock Steady,Don't be cruel and Dial my heart comes to mind

I love that 1986-1991 era of LAFace..

I respect Face but after he left The Deele and especialy after he split from LA as a producer duo he abandon funk and any kind of sense of musical suspense. The Deele were much closer to the sound that i like. They had a good vibe and too bad they didn't continue.Their bass player played great stuff on Rocksteady .My favorite production is on the song Girlfriend by Pebbles with The Deele guesting as well and Rocksteady by The Whispers.you know on LaFace early production most of the Deele members were playing.

'Face also plays lead guitar and sings lead vocal on the song "One Tender Moment" which is on the Manchild album FEEL THE PHUFF released in 1978.
