Jonah Hill To Play Jerry Garcia In Martin Scorsese-Directed Grateful Dead Pic For Apple

Personally, I’d prefer to see a Scorsese-directed documentary series, but this still got my attention.

Like Jonah, but why not an Latin actor to play him? I got to see Jerry once in my teens I worked a club and he just jumped on stage with an artist. Not a fan of the music though.

I’m intrigued by Grateful Dead’s music, but so far nothing has grabbed me yet. I’ll say that Jerry plays one of the most beautiful steel pedal guitar performances (check his performance in David Crosby’s debut album), in fact his playing was the main reason why I’m intrigued by their music. I know they’re beloved as musicians, but the cultish sentiments among his fans are such turn offs.

I suggest the albums “Workingman’s Dead” and “American Beauty”, 2 great albums from 1970 that sort of presage the Americana genre. As for the numerous live albums, the best in my view is 1971’s “Grateful Dead “ (also known as “Skull and Roses”)

And as I said about Elvis: ignore all the bullshit around them and just enjoy the MUSIC

There’s a 4 hour documentary, produced by Scorsese, on Amazon, called “What a Long, Strange Trip”

You’re not gonna live that one down, ain’t ya?

I highly appreciate the recommendations though mister, will definitely check them out smile like I said earlier, I’m intrigued, mostly due to Garcia. I remember dating somebody in the past, they had a copy of the “Pizza Tapes”, I remember being smitten with the warm sonic quality of the album which was mostly attributed to Garcia’s playing, that was the genesis of the intrigue. Fast forward to last year when I heard David Crosby’s solo debut and I heard one of the most beautiful & heartwarming pedal steel guitar solos, and who was on the credits? Jerry Garcia, there goes that name again.

Those suggestions will be good starting point for me. And thank you so much for the heads up about the documentary, I’ll check it out.

BTW- That’s Jerry playing a nice pedal steel part on Crosby, Stills & Nash’s “Teach Your Children “.

Jimmy Page once said he actually prefers Garcia’s pedal steel work over his regular guitar playing

Same here easily, his pedal steel guitar playing is absolutely gorgeous.

Garcia was all European. Father's family descended from Spain, mother Irish and Swedish. So pretty darn white.
