Angela Bofill is a classy singer who was known for sultry,jazzy "Quiet Storm"-type songs.After a few modest-selling albums in the late 70s,she entered the next phase of her career.Signing to Arista in 1981,she hooked up with producer Narada Michael Walden and for the next several years,her career was unstoppable.

"Too Tough" is the title track from her 1982 album,and it's a killer jam!! It's easily her funkiest song ever,boasting a memorable hook and very,very sexy lyrics...

Now,when this song came out,I was about 13 years old.I was familiar with Angela but I always thought of her as a classy jazz singer who mainly sang ballads.I didn't think she was "nasty" or anything...lol...so,when I heard these lyrics,I was like "No,she CAN'T be talking about what I think she's talking about"...lol...but if there was any doubt,she makes it clear during the song's unforgettable breakdown...

Perhaps she was trying to compete with Vanity 6's "Nasty Girl",which came out only months earlier??
