TrivialPursuit, I really love your name dropping. I've learned more new songwriters in this thread alone than I know what to do with!

LOL thanks?

I will say this, the ORg - despite it's contentious nature and bitch ass folks (which are really far and few between and they know damn well who they are) - does have a huge group of people who are real music lovers, love music history, love an artist's history, love the timelines, the folklore and figuring out what's real. It's certainly a good place to learn about music, new music, missed music, etc.

I have a growing respect for her the last two years. I am not into artists when there is that whole "craze", what I like is to see do they grow, what are they about, do they even care about music or are they going to be a magazine cover, and in movies and etc.. because others have gone that route when it seemed they were not front and center. Now with Taylor her popularity has not seemed to diminish which is very odd given how much music she has done (for this generation its alot) and she has been around 15 years now so it is odd also to have this now 32 year old (about to turn 32) who was a teen star still able to hold that audience and actually gain more and also factor that in which a time when people dont buy music much anymore. I think she is very smart and knows the trends and has even seen the resurgence of vinyl so much that she held her latest two releases and spaced the digital and then cd and then vinyl all out to keep the albums selling because her base buys it all, and she also includes things and hides things so she is very smart whether you like her songs or her whatever its not relevant the fact is she is probably the smartest person in music or one of the smartest in the last 25 years and for sure of her generation. Also the ability to go back re do your albums BUT be smart enough to not reinvent the songs, this is what PRINCE screwed up on with the disaster called the 1999 new master single, good lord what was he thinking. I have heard the albums she has redone and she has not deviated too much where you the listener who LIKED the old will be like "I dont care about this new shit" nope she is very smart folks. And her timing is even smarter, what was her biggest album 1989 she is, I have heard, saving that for the last of the redo's. So i get why people like her and dont like her i get it all and respect it, BUT if you cant see her smarts and ability to acheive certain things in a time when no one sells records anymore, maybe three people sell physical stuff and great amounts, but she has really held it for a decade and a half, and also has output, some artists in 15 years have 3 or 4 albums she has had 9 studio albums not counting the redos which she has done 2 so far which were basiclaly turned into double albums.

.
Sadly Prince just wasn’t the smartest when it came to making decisions. He easily could’ve hijacked 1999 that year by doing just what you said be he never failed to get in his own way. Such a waste.

Prince may have thought he could re-sell that song but re-do it at the same time. The reality is he could of, put all those members back in and re-do the song and it would have been his "master" he didnt have to get all new players, doug e fresh, rosie gaines, Larry G, I mean do that in concert. But as far as PRINCE re-recording albums and I know he said he was going to do it, the problem with that was, outside of PR and 1999 where was this really going to go? A lot of his early albums were not that "big" plus he would be re-recording albums from almost 20 years prior, I think its not fair to compare that with what Taylor is doing. She is re doing and keeping things pretty in tact, also it has not been that long and she does not have fan base that joined in big for an album or two and then faded away, it stuck with her in large numbers. Plus Prince had many different musicians play, I am sure there were and would be issues getting them back in a room together. Taylor doesnt really have a band that was with her and she got rid of them and changed this and that, she can record all her stuff at home in her studio and get it right out, Prince would get bored way too quick and I am almost positive the idea of redoing the catalog was great for a week, but then he realized, I cant do this.

That may be true of his whole catalogue but I'm speaking of 1999 specifically.

Opportunitues like that don't come around too often.

It's something he should've been preparing for at least 3 or 4 years prior.

That would've given him plenty of time to try and get the band back together, rerecord the album with a couple bonus discs of extra material of outtakes, and plan a tour for that year.

The public wouldn't have been able to resist. I mean a 1999 album and tour with the revolution IN 1999?

But he was so preoccupied trying to take a crap on WB that he didn't see the forest for the trees.

I'm sure people around him were pulling their hair out.

I think because Adele was gone after a lengthy stay and her return is big news.

Yeah, it's a new album release, so that's often a sticky thing. Taylor releasing a re-recorded older album isn't a sticky thing.

yeah I mean he could have redone the whole album with them but I just think he was set in his ways with new band members and new beliefs and he wasn't that person anymore.

And to further her ability she notches another number one album not really a surprise, but sells about 610,000 almost 420,000 are physical product again that is her edge over the world of drake and Others she can physically get you to own the frigging product on cd vinyl tape whatever she drops it on. And she has the number one song too, and it's officially the longest number one song in history.
