Hold the flood, just heard Sananda's latest album, it is the truth. Super weird and super original. TTD is back and beats even my Bruno.

1 remix and 1 one off single does not count for the entirety of his discography

He also did collabs with Snoop Dogg, Mystikal, & Lil Wayne. R&B & rap has been intertwined since the beginning of hip hop. It's pretty much in most mainstream Top 40 chart music.

The only collabs he did with rappers that qualify as "boring repititive trap" are with Gucci Mane and Cardi B and even those have a lot of flavor and musicality within them. All the other rap collabs are organic and each is different.

He's gone back to his original name? If so that's more surprising than Dawn & Maxine performing with En Vogue in 2019 or all 4 members of Pink Floyd at Live 8. lol

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

It's a decent impression of good music. Far too much auto tune on the vocals for my liking though. Having said that, it's better than anything else in the pop charts.

I like the video better than the song. It hasn’t grown on me like I thought it would after a few listens

TTD, the Kanye West avant-la-lettre of the second part of the eighties.

A behaviour example that made him so irrelevant for nearly three decades.

Should've happened to Kanye though - LOL. wink

I know, i'm unasked mean, bash me - I don't hate Kanye, i just don't care that much.

But I gave the TTD album a spin...

and I already forgot what I've heard.

Peace though. wink

We're talking about Silk Sonic here...

These two dudes make me long for a new and better musical future.

I love this so much.

I do hope it'll become a huge trend/style with other artists too.

Mark Ronson could get back in action - think of what he did with Amy WInehouse...

or give some old school producers another chance on saving the charts. smile

I know, I'm just an old bastard for these great melodic melancholic/nostalgic songs of the seventies.

Damn. When music was written, rehearsed and recorded.

And .Paak and Mars somehow seem to understand and long for that too.

They also even give it a fresh contemporary twist in the lyrical approach.

Love 3.0

I was not expecting this eek

I know the overall marketing of this duo/project is "two talented musicians get together to make a throwback R&B record" and the headlines scream "Love letter to 70s R&B and soul" and all of that.... Let me tell ya, there is serious, clever and witty stuff in each of the songs' arrangement. It's top-notch musicianship, studio production and songwriting. Big songs, bigger than both of them. "Put On a Smile" is just this expansive, overwhelmingly aching song that no matter how much its lyricism is rooted in the "tears of a clown" cliché subject matter, the way Bruno's vocals make you genuinely feel something in your heart is beyond criticism. "Blast Off" is just this interesting, hypnotic work of art that sounds like something Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys would love to hear, "After Last Night" is also a big song, and so was the first single.

Every musician and engineer who worked on each of those pieces should be very proud, it's a phenomenal acheivement in studio musicianship, vocal harmony, production, composition and arrangement.

I agree this album is an excellent piece of work, all involved can be proud of this fantastically produced album. I am pretty sure I will play it many times in the months/years to come.

Some more thoughts on my behalf:

  • The best thing about the album is the sheer musicality, the topnotch production and the complexity of the songwriting and especially the arrangements. There is a lot to discover in these tracks.
  • Eventhough it is stellar, there are some (minor) minusses too.
  • For starters I would have liked 1 or 2 more uptempo tracks.
  • I would have liked to hear a little bit more of funky, experimental Anderson in the music and a bit less of Bruno's sacharine, poppy style.
  • I do think Bruno did well to get Andy involved in this project: his drumming, his raspy voice and his fun, upbeat personality give this project a slight edge that would perhaps been harder to pull off otherwise, had Bruno embarked on this 70's throwback project alone.
  • I do think Andy did well joining this Bruno project, it will give him a lot of exposure and is a smart career move (as well as a fun project).
  • As a compromise between Bruno and Andy this album I think is like 65% Bruno and 35% Paak. With Bruno producing the album (together with the excellent D'Mile, whose work with Lucky Daye I really like) that is perhaps not a suprise.

Whole album is out--too short lol.

Lotta ballads. My specialty. 777 is the uptempo. Parliament meets P meets them.

Blast Off best song on album, what a ballad. woo. Earth. Wind and Fire vibe.

Put On A Smile weakest ballad. Still good.\

Fly As Me nice jam. Funny and funky. Sick.

After Last Night, another classic ballad. Stunner. Music is outragious.

Four and a one half stars. Album of the year.

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

I mean it DOES feel like Bruno's outshining Andy but technically "Fly As Me" is Anderson featuring Bruno, he starts the first verse on most of the songs (LTDO, Skate, Smoking Out the Window)

It's a 50 50 for me tbh. They're both organically synchronised and it feels like a cohesive entity.

The entire album is 🔥🔥🔥🔥. I want to give Anderson his props. He is basically the lead on every song and his voice is raw and filled with emotion. He and Bruno are the best DUO ever, IMO. Their vocals, instrumentation, cohesiveness, chemistry fit like a glove. This album had me smiling from the intro to the last track. Feel Good music and I’m all here for it. Hope they win every award they are nominated for. Btw, FUNK is all over this album.👏👏👏

The more I listen to it, the better it gets. That's the sign of a great album to me. This is all killer, no filler. They pulled out all the plugs on this one. The songwriting, the performances, the arrangements, the engineering, the mixing, the mastering, everything is absolutely top-notch. A true labor of love! cool

This album screams for a vinyl version, with all singles on 12" b/w b-sides!!!

Otherwise, greatest sonic production since forever biggrin

I don't feel Bruno is outshining Andy. I meant that I feel the slickness/poppyness of Bruno has slightly won over Anderson's more leftfield vibes in this project. I still totally love it.
