I think folks may be getting lost in the media rivalry, which is not my post.

The post was more like, "Did Prince hear 'Man in the Mirror' and write "Anna Stasia?" or

"Did MJ hear 'Temptation' and write 'Dirty Diana'?"

Just to say, "hey bruh, that's cute and all, but check this..."

Bad in general is very influenced by Prince's innovations to this point: increased reliance/dependence on drum machines and synthesizers, particularly when noting his previous record was more organic in production.

Juxtaposed with Thriller and keeping in mind it's the exact same producer as Thriller it's more "chasing trends" than Prince ever did.

Thing is Prince's influence was far-reaching and MJ's follow-up to Thriller took so long where perhaps this just happened to be where pop music and the MJ approach had to go in 1987?

TrivialPursuit said:

Hell, Prince locked himself away for days after MJ died to grieve him. He felt that loss in a deep way because he loved and respected MJ so much.

When Prince was shuffling places to live and fighting with his stepfather, MJ was all "Ben" and "Dancing Machine"-ing it up on TV and in concert. So think about it, MJ was as much a part of Prince's childhood as the rest of us.

Eh well.

[Edited 11/3/21 20:48pm]

Is that the rationale, you only mourn those you totally 100% love and respect with no reservations? The fact that he was apparently locked away for days suggests the relationship was significantly more complex than that. Perhaps you are ultimately right, that he ultimately did love and respect MJ, but it stands to reason if he was perhaps embarassed by MJ on that James Brown Grammy night which definitely occurred, or felt a little tinge of guilt for aggressively playing bass in MJ's face on a night he went to one of his shows which absolutely occurred, that might convolute or conflate a surge of desperate emotions.

1999 and Thriller came out only a month or so apart, but I do believe Purple Rain (all of it - the movie, album and tour) was a direct reply to the success of Thriller.

During Controversy he was already toying with a movie idea.
I think during that tour he started writing his ideas for Dreams in that purple notebook long before Thriller was released.

My Name Is Prince sounds to me like Prince is trying intentionally to sing like MJ.

Since when is MJ screaming or yelling throughout a whole song? Ya can't note "Scream" because that was out after "My Name is Prince."

I think it was a dig at MJ back then (Prince sings like MJ at the end of "Remember the Time" and Prince is doing all those little little gimmicks MJ does, Prince never did that ever) I think there was also a line in the song that was removed regarding MJ's King of Pop selfproclamation.
As a MJ and Prince fan I thought it was just funny and an obvious dig at MJ, no harm just fun. Other MJ fans I know were foaming at the mouth tho at the time lol

I read many things over the years through different boards.

Dirty Diana would be MJ's answer to Darling Nikki.
She Drives Me Wild the answer to Little Red Corvette.

Why You Wanna Trip On Me had an intro like When Doves Cry.

In 2BAD, Prince would have shared his background vocals with MJ ( the deep voice deep in the mix). The title of the track would be an obvious reference to Prince use of numbers to replace a syllabus.

There's also one thing that amazed me, the CD artwork of BOTDF, showing the diamonds and Pearls, mimicking the D&P CD.

An obvious reference to the eponym music video, but still. The knife in the heart would have been more understandable.

Among all his catalogue, Superfly Sister is IMHO the song that ressembles the more of Prince music.

If There's one thing they share in common musically, it's their ability to lay background vocals as no other ever did besides them.

I think MJ perfected this technique before Prince, and better though, notably his adlibs vocals covering his adlibs. Remember The Time is a famous instance.

MJ and Prince were both also famous, don't deny it, and often mocked, for their vocal gimmicks, " Hee hee", " Ooow", etc. MJ came first with that too.

There's also an obvious thing, nobody talks about it, but MJ named his two sons Prince. Debbie Rowe was already pregnant when Prince'son died.

Just wanted to add a few things to your response:
1. Debbie was pregnant with Michael’s first child BEFORE she became pregnant with Prince, and she had a miscarriage. Therefore, Debbie was pregnant by Michael THREE times.
2. Michael’s son Prince was named after his Grandfather, Prince Albert Screws, Katherine Jackson’s father. People ASSUMED he named him after singer Prince and that is totally a LIE. Btw, Michael has mentioned this several times; however, people ignore it. Hmmm, I wonder why?🤔🤔
[Edited 11/3/21 20:22pm]

I knew the grandfather story.
Except Prince wasn't his real surname, and that he named two times his children Prince.
By the way, how could MJ not seeing the ambiguity of naming his kids Prince?, when his mediatic rivalry with the singer of the same name was so famous- even to this day by young people.

I m not implying anything, but concerning MJ Prince was a controversial surname above all. Especially when Prince is not that common of a surname, frankly.
And why naming the following son Prince too?
MJ had only one grandfather? That was the only relative he liked in his family?

Even my mother, from the minute she saw him on TV announcing the shows, told me he wasn't going to make it. I think everybody knew, besides hardcore fans like me.

It was revealed during the AEG trial that MJ was drunk when announcing the shows. He emptied a vodka bottle in his hotel room from where he didn't want to go out. He just signed the contracy earlier that day.

He begged the AEG managers to rent a crowd to welcome him, because he thought nobody cared.
He said to them "nobody would pay to see a 50 years old man doing the moonwalk, you are all insane if you think you will get money with that".

Nobody "knew", except for assholes, who wanted him to fail. Also it was not the shows or rehearsals that killed him, it was his quack doctor that killed him. Had he not been killed by his quack doctor, there is no reason to believe that he wouldn't have done 27 shows in 3 months in '09 and 23 shows in 2 months in '10.

And for whatever bullshit that supposedly came out at the AEG trial is just that. BULLSHIT. If Michael Jackson knew anything, it was the fact that his fans would show up in droves, like they always did, wherever he went, even at his lowest times. And no, that crowd at O2 was not rented. And really, it's offensive to even suggest such a thing.

Please, take a Valium amd relax yourself.
YOU are an asshole, insulting my dead mother, who had absolutely nothing against MJ by the way, and in the end was proven right.
She just pitied him, cause he looked very miserable. He was obviously under substance that day, and this substance appeared to be a whole bottle of vodka.

MJ ASKED a rented crowd.
Proof : the intern mails at AEG, questioning MJ's psychological state of mind, and their testimony during the 2013 trial.
They all believed from the very beginning at AEG it was improbable he could stand the shows, but they got away with it because as an official at AEG wrote " If he can do the show, that's good. If he can't do it that's good too. Either way, it will be profitable to us".

I never said they ACTUALLY rented a crowd.
Of course they were shocked of the demand and tried to reassure MJ.

Please, learn to read correctly, and stop insulting others because of your ignorance.

Michael didn’t name himself the King of Pop, Elizabeth Taylor did. When she presented him an award at the American Music Awards, she dubbed him the “King of Pop, Rock and Soul.” It’s interesting how the racist mainstream media thinks that they are the only ones who can give a person a title. THEY have no problem calling Elvis the King of Rock and Roll. Yet, they called Michael the self-proclaimed King of Pop, until he died. After he died they called him the King of Pop without hesitation. The racist media had no problem calling James Brown, The Godfather Of SOUL or Aretha Franklin, the Queen Of SOUL. They only had a problem with Michael when he embraced the title King of Pop, because that means King of POPular music. To this day, THEY are STILL trying to give that title to every “Tom, Dick and Harry”. You don’t see them doing that to any other title, just Michael. You will never see the biased, racist media say that anyone else is the King of Rock n’Roll, except Elvis. Anyone who denies this is either deaf, dumb and blind or you are being being willfully ignorant and/or biased.

That's not BS and you know it. By the way, MJ didn't die in a car accident.

He died because he was an addict to painkiller. He did the same during the TII rehearsals he did after each show of the History Tour. He was on drug every night. He could have died many times during that era.

From what I collected over the years, two nights were particularly dangerous for MJ because of his painkillers abuse.
The night he learned from his accusations in 1993 during the Dangerous Tour during the Toaster introduction.

And the night after Lady Diana died, he took more drugs than usual amd it was almost lethal to him.

Of course there were many others signs, ssuch as the aborted HBO show, the MSG shows, etc.

It was completely predictable from am objective point of view, from which you seem lacking to this day concerning MJ.

MJ himself told in 2003 in his own documentary that if he would have to tour again, he would assuredly die.
But surely, MJ was a moron, an asshole, etc. Saying that of himself.

True.
I'll always consider him beyond the simple "King" title and will never call him that.
To me he's so much more. Same with Prince. Stevie Wonder called him The Emperor of Pop (I think when Prince died he said some tacky like "if Michael was King of Pop then Prince was the Emperor of Pop). Theyér both so much more.

Damn, I thought you were one of the few in this forum that relied on facts. It seems I was wrong about you. You have been spewing nothing but BULLSHIT in these recent posts of yours. MICHAEL did NOT die because he was addicted to painkillers. He died because Conrad Murray, a doctor, didn’t monitor him while he was hooked up to Propofol, an anesthesia, NOT a pain killer. In fact, the trial AND autopsy revealed that there were NO pain killers in Michael’s system, only the things that the murderer Conrad Murray pumped into him. Where were you when ALL of this info was made PUBLIC? The entire trial was TELEVISED everyday for hours. The bottomline and what the judge and jury decided was that IF Conrad Murray had monitored Michael while he was asleep, Michael would be alive today. Negligence is what killed Michael.Michael did NOT take any painkillers and overdose himself. You are not going to change the FACTS from the court documents or what was said and shown during a trial that lasted for WEEKS.

The trail also revealed that the autopsy results went back months in order to show that Michael had NO illicit drugs, PAIN KILLERS, etc.,in his system. Why haven’t you mentioned that FACT? Why do you WANT to try and change the DOCUMENTED facts? Oops, not going to happen when AWARE fans and defenders know what really happened.

Btw, Prince showed no signs that he was addicted to drugs; however, he died from an overdose of DRUGS-painkillers laced with fentanyl. So how are you saying that there were signs that Michael would die when people had no idea that Prince was taking drugs/painkillers that killed him.🤔

[Edited 11/3/21 10:56am] [Edited 11/3/21 11:03am]

I always thought that dirty diana is a copy of darling nikki. Just very misogynistic.

I read many things over the years through different boards. Dirty Diana would be MJ's answer to Darling Nikki. She Drives Me Wild the answer to Little Red Corvette. Dirty Diana and Darling Niki are nothing alike, IMO.

I'm talking overall theme. But MJ tended to shit on women and their sexual desires, while Prince embraced them more often and fancied that even. In darling nikki, prince is longing for nikki while MJ tried to make the misogynistic lyrics "sexy". Dirty diana is cringe inducing for that very reason to me. And you cannot tell me that MJ wasn't inspired by Prince's style as well. The only thing Prince didn't wear was a shirt.

Indeed, but not a power ballad.

Don’t know how I missed this topic but here is what I think. With invincible, mj was trying to fit in and prince with rainbow children was doing whatever the hell he wanted to do without worrying about fitting in, he had tried that with the rave album. I still prefer mj over prince though and feel those comparisons some of you made about mj and prince tunes were interesting. My name is prince gives me an mj vibe for sure, that’s why I really love that song. And 2bad does sound like a prince title now that it’s mentioned.

😂😂 Are you on drugs? In Darling Niki, Prince is calling her a sex fiend and says she’s masturbating with a magazine, etc. In other words he is shitting on this woman. He is being misogynistic. In Dirty Diana, Michael is describing a groupie who wants to have sex with him. She does everything to seduce him and finally Michael relents by calling his girlfriend/wife and tells her to “unlock the door” and leave it open because he will be late coming home. In the background you hear Diana say ..”because he’s sleeping with me”. I don’t find those lyrics misogynistic. Maybe YOU are just looking for ANYTHING to criticize or find fault. I do know that I find the song and video for Dirty Diana, sexy as hell. The live performance for the BAD tour was even sexier. Btw, I also like Prince’s performance of Darling Niki from the Purple Rain movie.

Stop trying to tear down Michael, in order to elevate Prince. It makes you seem immature and insecure. 😎

You're insulting others with quoting that bullshit. And if he had died because of a car accident, would that had been prove too that she was right? And that's a rethoric question. No, it wouldn't have proven anything. Once again, he was killed by his doctor. Fuck the naysayers.

  1. he didn't die because of painkillers
  2. he didn’t die previously, because his previous doctor didn’t kill him
  3. hearsay from wherever
  4. once again, the shows had nothing to do with it, it was his doctor that killed him and that wasn’t predictable, as no one knew about his doctor
  5. when someone says „Oooh, it’s killing me.“ doesn’t mean it’s literally going to kill him.

So how are you saying that there were signs that Michael would die when people had no idea that Prince was taking drugs/painkillers that killed him.🤔 [Edited 11/4/21 9:46am] [Edited 11/4/21 9:54am] [Edited 11/4/21 11:51am]

Both songs are about a femme fatale who seduces the man. In Prince's case, she simply asks if he wants to grind and he does and becomes obsessed with her. In Jackson's case she is more agressive and he runs away from her. Whatever that says about the two men, I don't know, but I think there's nothing wrong with comparing two songs with a more or less similar theme.
If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.
