Duran Duran's FUTURE PAST

Anyone have a chance to listen yet?

.

Its definitely a grower, took me a few listens to really get into it. One of the things I appreciate is the variety of sound and the collaborations with Graham Coxon, Mike Garson and Giorgio Moroder. The final track "FALLING" might be my new favorite all time Duran song, its so different and catchy.

.

Highlights for me include FALLING, MORE JOY!, WING, BEAUTIFUL LIES, GIVE IT ALL UP and especially the title track FUTURE PAST.

.

Lowlights include ALL OF ME and HAMMERHEAD, I just can't get into these two. Otherwise the album is solid! I gotta get my hands on the bonus tracks.

.

I'd say this is their most solid album since All You Need is Now. I hope to catch them on tour soon to hear the new stuff live.

Not yet, but I plan to at some point.

I love to love Duran Duran. I love the band as a whole. I love their history, I love the band, their professionalism, their talent, their aesthetic, their approach to videos, etc.

But sometimes their music is just a bit weird or off for my tastes. I support them, but I don't dig every album. I'll stream this one while I do some sewing tonight or this week.

D double is my squad. so WOW, that's high praise that the last song Falling could be your ALL TIME favorite D2 song. says a lot. i may start THERE with the album. i'm SOOOOO ambivalent about new music these days, even from artists i like. i used to be a DAY ONE type fan with new releases....

I wouldn't start with it, save it for the end where they placed it! It is a fab closer.

Roger Taylor did a Twitter Listening Party the other day for FUTURE PAST. Here is what he had to say about FALLING:

"FALLING" (feat. Mike Garson) Roger: A lovely way to close the album and

is a true music legend. Some people are seeing this song as a tribute to the late and great David Bowie, I'll take that…we wouldn't be here today releasing this record...without his divine inspiration. We are forever indebted to the musicians that David surrounded himself with, and Mike being one of the most incredible. I like the way this song kinda sneaks through the door, creeps up on you and then smothers you all over. Definitely one of the most powerful pieces of music we have done for a while.

A great record. Something Simon said recently is that "our audience has afforded us the luxury to experiment" and it is true they along with U2, REM, Aha, and a few other bands who have changed their sounds on records fall into this class. But he's right they expect them to try something, it doesn't always work for all and sometimes not even for all the members, I think Simon felt Paper Gods had no real space for Roger where on this record he said "Rogers fills are best here than almost any of our records". A lot of songs too easily could fall into a live set not just now but on future tours. Crazy that Simon turned 63 but they are all getting up there, and again this squashes the BS of musicians so their best when young, I hate this argument because it's never applied anywhere else, I mean have you seen early tom hanks movies and Denzel films way back I mean way back, they sucked.

Great album, and Simon sounds better than ever. My faves at the moment are "All Of You" and "Wing".

A beautiful album - incredibly cohesive and well sequenced with no fillers. Their best since 'The Wedding Album' in my opinion.

Took a few listens to fully enjoy. I think the previous album, Paper Gods, was slightly more enjoyable. However, this one is still very good. My highlights are Invisible and Falling.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
